Lambom Island
Lambom Island or Lambon or Lumbom, also known as Wallis Island, and Île aux Marteaux, is an island off the south-western corner of New Ireland (island), New Ireland, Papua New Guinea, off Lambom. On the other side of the Cape St. George peninsula is Lanisso Bay. The island was visited by Philip Carteret in June 1767, on his round-the-world voyage in ''Swallow''. He named it Wallis Island, after Samuel Wallis. Wallis had set out with him in ''Dolphin'', but the two ships were separated in a storm after passing through the Strait of Magellan. In July the following year the expedition of Louis Antoine de Bougainville arrived. He named the island Île aux Marteaux, "Hammer Island" after a species of Malleus (bivalve), ''Malleus'', the hammer shell or hammer oyster found there, which was not often found in European collections. Konoagil Rural LLG
Konoagil Rural LLG is a local government area in New Ireland Province, Papua New Guinea. The LLG administers the southern peninsula of the island of New Ireland. The LLG is located in Namatanai District and its population is 13,132 (Census 2011). Languages in the area include Siar-Lak and Label. The LLG is bordered by the Namatanai Rural LLG in the west coast and the new Matalai Rural LLG in the east coast. The current LLG president is Hon. James Pandi MPA. The Konoagil LLG is one of the LLGs of Namatanai District of New Ireland situated at the Southern tip of the island of New Ireland Province. Namatanai District
Namatanai District is the southernmost and larger of the two districts of New Ireland Province in Papua New Guinea. The district covers the southern part of New Ireland (island), the island of New Ireland, as well as the Tabar Group, the Lihir Group, the Tanga Islands and the Feni Islands. It is the 12th most populated District in Papua New Guinea and is recommended to be split into two districts by 2022. Sentral Niu Ailan Rural LLG will become an Electorate of its own.
