Lambertus Neher
Lambertus Neher (13 September 1889, Amsterdam – 22 August 1967, Voorst) was a Dutch politician and businessman. For his active role in the Dutch resistance in World War II, he received an American honour, the Medal of Freedom with Gold Palm, on April 9, 1953. Medal Of Freedom (1945)
The Medal of Freedom was a decoration established by President Harry S. Truman to honor civilians whose actions aided in the war efforts of the United States and its allies during and beyond World War II. It was intended to be awarded by the secretary of state, the secretary of war, or the secretary of the navy, but presidents Dwight D. Eisenhower and John F. Kennedy also authorized awards. The first woman and American citizen to receive it was Anna M. Rosenberg by Robert P. Patterson on the recommendation of Eisenhower. Description The medal is a bronze disc whose obverse features the profile of the Statue of Freedom of the US Capitol Building, with the word "FREEDOM" in capital letters in an arc at the bottom of the disc. The reverse features the Liberty Bell surrounded by the words "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" in capital letters. The medal is suspended on a red ribbon with four thin white stripes. Biografisch Woordenboek Van Nederland
The ''Biografisch Woordenboek van Nederland'' (BWN) is a Dutch biographical dictionary, in which short biographies of well-known and less well-known but still notable Dutch people are listed. The BWN is the successor to the '' Nieuw Nederlandsch Biografisch Woordenboek'' (NNBW) that was published between 1911 and 1937 in ten parts. This work only included people who died before 1910. In 1971, historian I. Schöffer from Leiden took the initiative for a continuation. The first part of the BWN was published in 1979. The sixth and last part was published in 2009. The biographies in the BWN were written by many different authors. Since 2002 all biographies are available for free online at the ''Institution for Dutch History'', based in The Hague.
