Jami-Ul-Alfar Mosque ( si, කොලඹ කොටුව රතු පල්ලිය , translit= Kolomba Kotuwa Rathu Palliya, ta, மஸ்ஜிதுல் ஜாமிஉல் அஃபார் அல்லது சம்மாங்கோடு பள்ளிவாசல் , translit=Sammankodu Pallivasal, (known colloquially as the ''Samman Kottu Palli'', ''Rathu Palliya'', ''Red Masjid'' or the ''Red Mosque'') is a historic mosque in Colombo, Sri Lanka. It is located on Second Cross Street in Pettah. The mosque is one of the oldest mosques in Colombo and a popular tourist site in the city. History Construction of the Jami-Ul-Alfar Mosque commenced in 1908 and the building was completed in 1909. Lal Masjid, Islamabad
The Lal Masjid ( ur, ; translated: Red Mosque) is a mosque located in Islamabad, the capital of Pakistan. It is near to Abpara Market, Islamabad. It was constructed in 1966 as one of the oldest mosques in the new capital. It was also the largest mosque in the city for twenty years, until the Faisal Mosque was built in 1986. The mosque later came to be known as the site of a siege which led to a military operation by the Pakistan Army against the leaders and students of the mosque, resulting in hundreds of deaths. Siege Of Lal Masjid
The siege of Lal Masjid ( ur, , code-named Operation Sunrise) was a confrontation in July 2007 between Islamist students & fundamentalist militants and the Government of Pakistan, led by President Pervez Musharraf and Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz. The focal points of the operation were the Lal Masjid ("Red Mosque") and the Jamia Hafsa madrasah complex in Islamabad, Pakistan. Since January 2006, Lal Masjid and the adjacent Jamia Hafsa madrasah had been operated by Islamic militants led by two brothers, Abdul Aziz and Abdul Rashid. This organisation advocated the imposition of Sharia (Islamic religious law) in Pakistan and openly called for the overthrow of the Pakistani government. 2008 Lal Masjid Bombing
In the Lal Masjid bombing of 6 July 2008 at 7:50 pm local time, a 30-year-old suicide bomber blew himself up near the Lal Masjid mosque in Islamabad, the capital of Pakistan, killing 18 policemen and 1 civilian. The bombing occurred on the first anniversary of the siege of Lal Masjid and was likely a revenge attack. The attack occurred even amid tight security in Islamabad, where thousands of Islamic students in Pakistan came to mark the day when Pakistani troops stormed Lal Masjid. Pakistani Interior Minister Rehman Malik, who visited the blast site, said about 12,000 students attended the rally and the attack was directed at police. Lal Masjid ( "Red Mosque") of Delhi, also known as the Fakr-ul Masjid ( "Pride of Mosques") or Sikandar Sahib's Masjid, is a mosque located in Bara Bazaar, Kashmiri Gate in Old Delhi, India. History The building was built in 1728 by Kaniz-i-Fatima (entitled Fakr-i-Jahan), in memory of her husband Shujaat Khan, a noble in the court of Mughal emperor Aurangzeb. Colonel James Skinner repaired the mosque and its construction is sometimes misattributed to him. Illustrations and descriptions of the mosque were included in Sir Thomas Metcalfe's 1844 book "Reminiscences of Imperial Delhi."
