Lal Behari Das
Lal Behari Das was an Indian politician and former member of the West Bengal Legislative Assembly. He served as the representative of the Khejuri constituency between 1956 and 1957 as a member of the Praja Socialist Party. He was elected to the constituency in a by-election and his candidacy was supported by the Communist Party of India which campaigned in opposition to the proposed merger of West Bengal and Bihar. The West Bengal Legislative Assembly (ISO 15919, ISO: ''Paścimabaṅga Vidhānasabhā'') is the unicameral legislature of the Indian state of West Bengal, located in eastern India. It consists of 294 members directly elected from single-seat constituencies through the first-past-the-post voting, FPTP voting system. The Assembly meets at Vidhan Sabha Bhavan in Kolkata, the capital of the state. Praja Socialist Party
The Praja Socialist Party, abbreviated as PSP, was an Indian political party. It was founded in 1952 when the Socialist Party, led by Jayaprakash Narayan, Rambriksh Benipuri, Acharya Narendra Deva and Basawon Singh (Sinha), merged with the Kisan Mazdoor Praja Party led by J. B. Kripalani (former president of the Indian National Congress and a close associate of Jawaharlal Nehru). The PSP led the cabinet under Pattom A. Thanu Pillai as chief minister of State of Travancore-Cochin from March 1954 to February 1955. In 1955 a faction led by Ram Manohar Lohia broke from the party, reusing the name "Socialist Party". The West Bengal state assembly election of 1957 was part of a series of state assembly elections in 1957.
