Lakeshore Conference (Wisconsin)
The Lakeshore Conference is a former high school athletic conference with membership concentrated in southeastern Wisconsin. It was operational from 1997 to 2008, and all members belonged to the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association at the time of the conference's dissolution. History The Lakeshore Conference was formed in 1997 during a period of realignment among high school athletic conferences in Wisconsin. The five public high schools (Badger, Union Grove, Waterford, Westosha Central and Wilmot Union) were all former members of the Eastern Division of the Southern Lakes Conference, which was dissolved that year. The sixth member of the Eastern Division, Burlington, would go on to join the Southeast Conference. An athletic conference is a collection of sports teams which play competitively against each other in a sports league. In many cases conferences are subdivided into smaller Division (sport), divisions, with the best teams competing at successively higher levels. Conferences often, but not always, include teams from a common geographic region. The Wisconsin Independent Schools Athletic Association is a former organization for high school athletics in Wisconsin. Consisting entirely of private schools, it was formed in 1968 and completed a merger with the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association in 2000. The Metro Classic Conference is a high school athletic conference with its membership concentrated in southeastern Wisconsin. Formed in 2012 and consisting entirely of private schools, all members belong to the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association. History The Metro Classic Conference was founded in 2012, the result of a split between member schools in the larger Midwest Classic Conference. Eight schools left the conference that year: Catholic Central in Burlington, Dominican in Whitefish Bay, Martin Luther in Greendale, Racine Lutheran, Shoreland Lutheran in Somers, St. Catherine's in Racine, St. Joseph in Kenosha and The Prairie School in Wind Point.
