Lake Waubeeka
Lake Waubeeka is a man-made lake previously owned and created by Hiram Kellogg and later sold to eventually become a private community in the Starrs Plain section of Danbury, Fairfield County, Connecticut, United States. History Originally a summer colony, the lake community was established by a group of Jewish New York City firefighters, known as the Ner Tamid Society, in 1951. Only a year prior, the group had set up the organization (Lake Tormid Inc.) that would complete the endeavor. Previous to this, the Lake Waubeeka property had been used as a campsite for the Boy Scouts. Although there were initial plans to rename the lake to "Lake Tormid," the decision was made to keep the original ''Waubeeka'', which is said to be an Indigenous term for "high water." Danbury Airport
Danbury Municipal Airport is a public use general aviation and commercial airport located three miles (5 km) southwest of the central business district of Danbury, in Fairfield County, Connecticut, United States. The airport opened in 1930. It is currently run by the City of Danbury under the management of Michael Safranek. It is included in the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) National Plan of Integrated Airport Systems for 2017–2021, in which it is categorized as a regional reliever airport facility. Miry Brook, Connecticut
Miry Brook is an unincorporated area in the City of Danbury in Fairfield County, Connecticut. It is located in the western part of the city, bordering Mill Plain to the north and west at Lake Kenosia and the town of Ridgefield, Connecticut, to the southwest. The Danbury Airport is located in Miry Brook. History The name Miry Brook is derived from the presence of swampland or “mire,” which makes up the landscape of the area, as well as the aptly named stream or “brook” that runs through it. According to local tradition however, it was named after an incident that occurred during the 1777 British retreat from Danbury (see Battle of Ridgefield), in which the Americans destroyed the bridge at Wolf Pond Run to impede the British, causing them a delay and mired artillery.
