Lake Nero (Cesana Torinese)
The Lake Nero is an Alpine lake situated at 2,070 meters a.s.l. in the municipality of Cesana Torinese within the Metropolitan City of Turin. Geography The lake lies at the foot of , a few kilometers from the French border, and is accessible via an unpaved road from and Claviere. Not far from the water’s edge stands a small sanctuary, the ''Madonna del Lago Nero'', established between 1747 and 1840 and rebuilt in 1854 at the behest of Bousson’s residents. Alpine Lake
An alpine lake is a high-altitude lake in a mountainous area, usually near or above the tree line, with extended periods of ice#On lakes, ice cover. These lakes are commonly glacial lakes formed from glacial activity (either current or in the past) but can also be formed from geological processes such as volcanic activity (volcanogenic lakes) or landslides (landslide dam, barrier lakes). Many alpine lakes that are fed from glacial meltwater have the characteristic bright turquoise green color as a result of glacial flour, suspended minerals derived from a glacier scouring the bedrock. Cesana Torinese (French ''Césanne'') is a ''comune'' (municipality) in the Metropolitan City of Turin in the Italian region Piedmont, located about west of Turin, on the border with France. Claviere
Claviere (; ; ; ) is a municipality in the Metropolitan City of Turin in the Italian region of Piedmont, located about west of the centre of Turin, on the border with France. Claviere is a small, but well equipped skiing village. The snow season lasts from December to April. The parish church has a Gothic-style portal. History Claviere (known as Clavières until the early 19th century) was already known in Roman times due to its strategical position near the Col de Montgenèvre. In 1713, it was acquired by the Kingdom of Sardinia after the Peace of Utrecht. Claviere was mostly destroyed during World War II.
