Lake D’Arbonne
Lake D’Arbonne is a man-made reservoir located near and around the town of Farmerville in Union Parish in north Louisiana. Lake D’Arbonne State Park, a state-maintained camping and recreation area, is located on the lake. Louisiana State Highway 33 bridge crosses the lake History The lake has a combined estimated area of , first planned in 1957. In 1961, a -long, tall concrete dam was built by the Louisiana Department of Public Works. The lake began to fill by 1963. Lake D’Arbonne State Park, a state-maintained camping and recreation area, is located on the lake. The Louisiana State Highway 33 bridge crosses the lake and named for James Peyton Smith, the state representative from Union and Morehouse parishes from 1964 to 1972. Union Parish ( French: ''Paroisse de l'Union'') is a parish located in the north central section of the U.S. state of Louisiana. As of the 2020 census, the population was 21,107. The parish seat is Farmerville. The parish was created on March 13, 1839, from a section of Ouachita Parish. Its boundaries have changed four times since then (in 1845, 1846, 1867, and 1873, respectively). Union Parish is part of the Monroe, LA Metropolitan Statistical Area. Farmerville is a town in and the parish seat of Union Parish, Louisiana, United States. It has also been known as Farmersville. The population was 3,860 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Monroe Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town is spread about Lake D'Arbonne, a popular fishing and boating waterway. Geography According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of , of which is land and (0.72%) is water. Climate The climate in this area is characterized by hot, humid summers and generally mild to cool winters. Louisiana Highway 33 (LA 33) is a state highway located in northern Louisiana. It runs in a southwest to northeast direction from U.S. Highway 80 (US 80) in Ruston to the Arkansas state line north of Marion. The route begins east of Ruston's downtown area and provides access to one of the city's three interchanges with Interstate 20 (I-20). Midway along its route, LA 33 joins LA 15 across Lake D'Arbonne, a popular recreational spot, and through the adjacent town of Farmerville. North of Marion, the roadway continues as Arkansas Highway 129 toward Huttig, Arkansas.
