Delmar Independent School District (DISD) was a public school district based in Lamar and Delta counties in North Texas established in 1941. It consolidated with the West Lamar Independent School District into the Delmar-West Lamar CISD. The name Delmar is a portmanteau of Delta and Lamar, for the two counties it was based in. Cooper Independent School District
Cooper Independent School District is a public school district based in Cooper, Texas (USA). Located in Delta County, a very small portion of the district extends into Hunt County. History 19th century Delta County was first inhabited by European settlers in the 1820s, when the area around present-day Ben Franklin was developed. The area saw an influx of settlers in the 1830s, many coming from the southeastern United States. In 1846, control of the area was split between Hopkins and Lamar Counties by the Texas Legislature. The area continued to grow rapidly, developing into a largely agricultural area. Cooper, Texas
Cooper is a city in and the county seat of Delta County, in the U.S. state of Texas. Located between the north and south forks of the Sulphur River, Cooper is the largest settlement in Delta County. At the 2020 United States census, the city had a population of 1,911. First inhabited by native people, Cooper was founded around 1870, at the same time that Delta County was established. Cooper grew rapidly and quickly became the center of local events. The city's economy relied primarily on agriculture and the shipping of local goods. In the mid-1890s, a railroad line was built through the city, assisting in Cooper's growth. The city continued to grow through the 1910s, and into the early 1920s. The Texas State Historical Association (TSHA) is an American nonprofit educational and research organization dedicated to documenting the history of Texas. It was founded in Austin, Texas, United States, on March 2, 1897. In November 2008, the TSHA moved its offices from Austin to the University of North Texas in Denton, Texas. In 2015, the offices were relocated again to the University of Texas at Austin.
