Lake Alleghe
Lake Alleghe (Lago d'Alleghe) is a natural lake in the Province of Belluno, Italy. It is situated in the municipalities of Rocca Pietore (west) and Alleghe (east). The surface is about 0.40 km2. The circumference is around 4.5 km. Alleghe (Ladin language, Ladin: ''Àlie'') is a village and ''comune'' in the province of Province of Belluno, Belluno in the Italy, Italian region of Veneto. To the west Alleghe borders with Lake Alleghe, which was formed in 1771 by a landslide from the adjacent Mont Piz. Name Purists of the Italian language would derive the name Alleghe from the Latin ''alica'' or ''alicarius'', meaning "granary", but as no grain is grown in this Alpine village, it is most likely that Alleghe is a contraction of the Ladin ''a l'agua'', in reference the deep mountain valley that marked the western boundary of the village prior to the landslide of 1771. Debris flows are geological phenomena in which water-laden masses of soil and fragmented Rock (geology), rock flow down mountainsides, funnel into stream channels, entrain objects in their paths, and form thick, muddy deposits on valley floors.
