Lake2Lake Trail
The Lake2Lake Trail is a shared-use trail between Te Anau and Manapouri in the South Island of New Zealand. The trail was established by the Fiordland Trails Trust, a charitable trust formed in 2007. Fundraising for the construction of the trail began in 2015. The first section of the trail, from Te Anau to Queens Reach, was opened in 2016, and the second stage from Queens Reach to Balloon Loop was opened in 2017. When the full length of the route between Te Anau and Manapouri was completed in 2022, it included a section where riders had to use State Highway 95. The trust had been seeking to eliminate the section along the state highway by creating a trail through the Fiordland National Park, but this was not permitted by the current national park management plan. In 2023, an alternative route was chosen to move this section away from the state highway. Southland District
Southland District is a New Zealand Districts of New Zealand, territorial authority district that covers most of the southern end of the South Island as well as Stewart Island. History Southland District was formed through the 1989 local government reforms. Four local authorities were amalgamated at that time: Wallace County, New Zealand, Wallace County, Winton Borough, Stewart Island County and most of Southland County. John Casey, who was first elected onto Southland County Council in 1977, oversaw the amalgamation and was elected Southland District's first Mayor of Southland District, mayor in 1989. Te Anau
Te Anau is a town in the Southland, New Zealand, Southland List of regions in New Zealand, region of the South Island of New Zealand. In Māori language, Māori, Te-Anau means the Place of the Swirling Waters. It is on the eastern shore of Lake Te Anau in Fiordland. Manapouri
Manapouri is a small town in Southland / Fiordland, in the southwest corner of the South Island, in New Zealand. The township is the westernmost municipality in New Zealand. Located at the edge of the Fiordland National Park, on the eastern shore of Lake Manapouri, close to its outflow into the Waiau River, tourist boat services are based in the town. State Highway 95 (New Zealand)
State Highway 95 is a New Zealand state highway connecting the town of Manapouri with Te Anau at State Highway 94. The highway is a major tourist road and skirts the eastern border of Fiordland National Park between Lake Te Anau and Lake Manapouri. The entire length of the road lies on the Southern Scenic Route between Queenstown and Dunedin via Invercargill. Fiordland National Park is a national park in the south-west corner of South Island of New Zealand.
