Belgium was represented at the Eurovision Song Contest 1988 with the song "", written by Joseph Reynaerts, Dany Willem, and Philippe Anciaux, and performed by Reynaert himself. The Belgian participating broadcaster, Walloon (RTBF), selected its entry through a national final. Before Eurovision ''1988'' Wallon broadcaster (RTBF) had the turn to participate in the Eurovision Song Contest 1988 representing Belgium. It held the national final on 28 February 1988 at 20:05 CET in its studios in Brussels, hosted by Patrick Duhamel. The winner was chosen by an expert jury and a public jury, consisting of 500 selected television viewers. The full results of the voting were not made public, and only the winning song was announced. Reynaert
Reynaert (born Joseph Reynaerts; 24 July 1955 – 5 November 2020) was a Belgian singer-songwriter, best known for his participation in the 1988 Eurovision Song Contest. Early career Reynaert was born in Seraing, and started busking at the age of 18. In 1978 he won the annual music competition in the town of Spa with the song "Cerf-volant" ("Kite"), which was released as a single. Another single, "Pas assez" ("Not Enough"), followed in 1982 and he released his first album in 1984. Eurovision Song Contest In 1988, Reynaert's song "Laissez briller le soleil" ("Let the Sun Shine") was chosen as the Belgian representative in the 33rd Eurovision Song Contest, which took place on 30 April in Dublin. VRT 1
VRT 1 is a public Dutch-language TV station in Belgium, owned by the VRT, which also owns Ketnet, VRT Canvas and several radio stations. Although the channel is commercial-free, short sponsorship messages are broadcast in between some programmes. VRT 1 focuses on drama, entertainment, news and current affairs in a similar vein to BBC One in the United Kingdom.
