Laine Johnson
Laine Elizabeth Johnson is a politician in Ontario, Canada. She is the city councillor for College Ward on Ottawa City Council. Johnson is the first woman to represent the ward in its history. Background Johnson was born in Ottawa, and grew up near Hog's Back Falls. She attended Canterbury High School, specializing in drama. Prior to being elected, Johnson was the Director of Tenant and Community Engagement the Centretown Citizens Ottawa Corporation, a non-profit housing provider. She was also the executive director of Synapcity, a non-profit that provides municipal civics education. Johnson co-founded the Ottawa Community Land Trust. She has also taught at Algonquin College, worked as a researcher for the Public Policy Forum, and was a volunteer for Ottawa Victim Services. Diane Deans
Diane Elizabeth Deans is a member of Ottawa City Council, Canada, representing Gloucester-Southgate Ward in the city's southeast, representing more than 49,500 residents. Career A graduate of the University of Guelph, she was active in the Canadian Federation of Students before becoming a staffer on Parliament Hill. Deans was first elected to Ottawa city council in 1994. Prior to Ottawa and its surrounding municipalities were amalgamated in 2001, she faced a tough election against George Barrett. 2022 Ottawa Municipal Election
The 2022 Ottawa municipal election was held on Monday, October 24, 2022, to elect a mayor, city councillors, and trustees to the English and French public school boards and the English and French Catholic school boards in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. Incumbent Mayor Jim Watson did not run for re-election, citing his age as the reason behind his decision. This election was the first since the 1997 municipal election that an incumbent mayor or its equivalent did not run for re-election. The mayoral election was won by businessman and former journalist Mark Sutcliffe. Candidate nominations opened on May 2 and closed on August 19. The election was held on the same day as the 2022 Ontario municipal elections. Westcliffe Estates
Westcliffe Estates (Bells Corners West), is a neighbourhood of Bells Corners in College Ward, in the west end of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. Founded in 1969, most of the older homes in this area were built by Assaly Construction and later the Thomas C. Assaly Corporation. The Westcliffe community is characterized by significantly higher residential densities than other parts of Bells Corners. There is a multi-storey housing complex operated by Nepean Housing as well as a multi-storey seniors residence and co-operative housing project. Leslie Park is a suburban neighbourhood in College Ward in the city of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. It is located in the former city of Nepean. Leslie Park is bounded on the north by Baseline Road, on the east by Greenbank Road and on the south by the OCRR. Penny Collenette
Penny Collenette (born May 20, 1950, in Oakville, Ontario) is a Canadian lawyer, professor and political figure of the Liberal Party of Canada. The wife of former Liberal Member of Parliament and cabinet minister David Collenette, she sought, and won, the 2008 Liberal nomination over community activist and businessman Scott Bradley for the riding of Ottawa Centre, which was held by Paul Dewar of the New Democratic Party. She came in second to Dewar in the election. She was vice-chair of the human rights committee for Liberal International in 1987, and director of volunteers for Jean Chrétien’s leadership race in 1984 and campaign director in the successful 1990 bid, as well as national director and director of legal services for the Liberal Party of Canada in the 1993 election. The Ottawa City Council (french: Conseil municipal d'Ottawa) is the governing body of the City of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. It is composed of 24 city councillors and the mayor.
