Lai Kew Chai
Lai Kew Chai (; 7 February 1941 – 27 February 2006) was a Singaporean judge and the longest-serving member of the Supreme Court Bench, having served for almost 25 years as a Judge. Biography Early life and education Born in Tanjung Malim, Perak, he received his early education at Methodist English School at his hometown in 1950, and at the Methodist Boys' School, Kuala Lumpur in 1955. Lai was an exceptional student in school, excelling as a school captain and in his studies. He received a School Book Prize for best HSC results for his final year examinations in 1961, and from there went on to read law at the University of Singapore in March 1962, with a University Entrance Scholarship. Benjamin Henry Sheares
Benjamin Henry Sheares (12 August 1907 – 12 May 1981) was a Singaporean physician and academic who served as the second president of Singapore between 1971 until his death in 1981. Of Eurasian descent, Sheares was born in Singapore under British rule and graduated from the King Edward VII College of Medicine. He studied obstetrics and gynaecology and worked as an obstetrician at the Kandang Kerbau Hospital (KKH), eventually serving as the Acting Professor of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the University of Malaya in Singapore. He later became the Professor of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the university, a rare feat for a local as usually high-ranking colonial officers held such positions. Ibnu Sutowo (23 September 1914 – 12 January 2001) was an Indonesian army officer, Cabinet Minister and former head of the Indonesian oil and gas producer Pertamina. Early life Ibnu was born near the Yogyakarta Sultan's palace on 23 September 1914. His father had been a regency head near the city of Semarang in Central Java. On 2 November 1984, 19-year-old interior designer Lim Hwee Huang () was thrown off a tenth storey HDB flat at Kallang Bahru, after she was raped by 27-year-old Eurasian Singaporean Hensley Anthony Neville, who fled to the neighbouring country Malaysia. Tan Teow Yeow () (1946 – 6 August 2008) was a Judicial Commissioner of the Supreme Court of Singapore and a former President of the Industrial Arbitration Court. Early life and education Tan graduated from the National University of Singapore Faculty of Law in 1967. Career Tan served in the legal sector for 40 years. He started his career first as a Deputy Public Prosecutor and then as a Magistrate. In 1973, he was appointed as the head of the Crime Division of the Attorney-General's Chambers. He was then appointed as the President of the Industrial Arbitration Court from 1988 to 1991. Sim Ah Cheoh
Sim Ah Cheoh (沈亚彩 Shěn Yàcăi; – 30 March 1995) was a Singaporeans, Singaporean drug trafficker Chinese Singaporeans, of Chinese descent. She was originally Capital punishment in Singapore, sentenced to death in 1988 for the crime, for which she was arrested in 1985, and Sim's two accomplices Lim Joo Yin (林裕炎 Lín Yùyán) and Ronald Tan Chong Ngee (陈忠义 Chen Zhōngyì) were also arrested and received the same sentence, and like Sim, both also lost their appeals against their sentence. Joseph Grimberg
Joseph Grimberg SC (8 April 1933 – 17 August 2017) was a Singaporean prominent lawyer and former Supreme Court judge. Legal career Grimberg was born in Singapore on 8 April 1933 and is of Jewish descent. He attended Saint Andrew's School and University of Cambridge's Faculty of Law for his education. He later joined Drew & Napier, when he was called to the Singapore Bar in 1957. He was a senior partner at the law firm from 1967 to 1987, when he was appointed Judicial Commissioner of the Supreme Court in 1987. Murder Of Packiria Pillai Krishnasamy
On 27 July 1984, 74-year-old Packiria Pillai Krishnasamy was murdered inside his flat at Tah Ching Road, Jurong. The police managed to arrest two suspects, Ramachandran Suppiah and Krishnan Varadan, who were both allegedly responsible for causing Packiria's death during a robbery bid. In May 1987, Ramachandran and Krishnan were both sentenced to hang for murdering Packiria. Although the duo lost their first appeal against the trial verdict, Ramachandran was acquitted after his second appeal, due to insufficient evidence proving that Ramachandran had participated in the crime, and Krishnan however, remained on death row after failing to challenge his conviction a second time. Tan Koon Swan (; born 24 September 1940) is a Malaysian political and corporate figure. He was the fifth president of the Malaysian Chinese Association (MCA), a component party of Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition; from November 1985 to September 1986.
