Lahur Talabani
Lahur Talabani (; born 1975), also known as Lahur Sheikh Jangi Talabani () is an Iraqi politician, he was the Vice-President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, the former Director of the Zanyari Agency and Former Director of the Counter Terrorism Group ( CTG). Known commonly as Sheikh Lahur, Talabani was a leading figure in the fight against terror especially in the fight against the Islamic State. After losing a leadership battle and being ousted from the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, Lahur proceeded to found his own party, the People's Front. Political and military career From 1999 to 2001 Talabani served as the Special Representative of the PUK to Turkey. Having returned to the Kurdistan Region, he co-founded the Counter-Terrorism Group (CTG) in 2002, which was established with the support of the United States Military 10th Special Forces Group and the Central Intelligence Agency. People's Front (Kurdistan Region)
The People's Front (), is a political party in the Kurdistan Region that was founded by the former co-chair of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), Lahur Sheikh Jangi. The party received its license from the interior ministry on 17 January 2024. On its founding congress in Erbil on 14 March 2024, about 160 members participated, electing leadership council of 13 persons. The party claims "serving the Kurdish people, freedom of opinion and civil rights" as their core values, as well as equality and democracy. For the 2024 Kurdistan Region parliamentary election, Lahur Sheikh Jangi is heading the party's list in Silêmanî Governorate. Operation Viking Hammer
Operation Viking Hammer was an unconventional warfare operation during the Iraq War which took place in northern Iraq, commonly known as Iraqi Kurdistan. The goal of the operation was to eliminate Ansar al-Islam and dismantle the Islamic Emirate of Kurdistan. Ansar al-Islam was established by former Al-Qaeda members in 2001 as a Kurdish Salafist movement that imposed a strict application of Sharia in villages it controlled. Background Ansar al-Islam made its first appearance in Iraqi Kurdistan in December 2001. The group was founded by Mullah Krekar and made up of mostly Kurdish veterans of Jihad coming back from Afghanistan following the end of the Soviet-Afghan War.
