Lagunen Storsenter is a shopping center located in the borough Fana in Bergen, Norway. Fana, Bergen
Fana is a borough of the city of Bergen in Vestland county, Norway. The borough makes up the southeastern part of the municipality of Bergen. The borough was once part of the historic municipality of Fana (municipality), Fana which was incorporated into Bergen in 1972. The old municipality was much larger than the present-day borough of Fana. It also included all of the present-day boroughs of Ytrebygda and Fyllingsdalen as well as the southern part of the present-day boroughs of Årstad, Bergen, Årstad. As of 1 January 2012, Fana had a population of 39,216. Olav Thon
Olav Thon (29 June 1923 – 16 November 2024) was a Norwegian real estate developer. His Olav Thon Group is Norway's largest private real estate company, with 450 properties, including 60 hotels. Thon began his career by selling animal fur shortly before World War II in Oslo, and he opened his first restaurant in 1966. Early life Thon was born on 29 June 1923 in Ål, Hallingdal, Norway. His parents were businessman Sevat Embrikson and Margit Engebretsdatter Dok. Thon started his business career as a boy at home on the family farm in Ål, where he farmed fur animals and bought and sold skins from foxes, squirrels and rabbits. At the age of 8, Thon started ordering a supply of Christmas cards from a mail-order catalog and selling them to his neighbors. Bergen Storsenter is the largest shopping centre in central Bergen, Norway, with a turnover of 1,024 billion Norwegian krone in 2002. History The first shopping centre on this location opened on 11 March 1988 and was called Bystasjonen. On 19 March 1999 Bergen Storsenter opened, owned by the Olav Thon Group. The new shopping centre was built by joining together Bystasjonen shopping centre with the building Kimhuset, which up until then had been used as first a shoe factory and later a furniture business. Olav Thon Gruppen had bought both Kimhuset and Bystasjonen in 1997. Compared to Bystasjonen, the number of stores grew from 38 to 72 with the completion of Bergen Storsenter.
