Lagos Photo
LagosPhoto Festival is the first international art festival of photography in Nigeria, launched in October 2010. It is organised by the African Artists’ Foundation (AAF) as part of an ongoing project designed to use art in public spaces, as a medium for increasing societal awareness. The festival includes workshops and classes for professional artists, art fairs and indoor and outdoor exhibitions citywide. LagosPhoto is held annually and features emerging photographers alongside established photographers. Azu Nwagbogu is the festival's founder and director. Editions No Judgement: Africa Under the Prism (2010) The inaugural edition leveraged on Nigeria's 50 years of Independence. Stanley Greene
Stanley Greene (February 14, 1949 – May 19, 2017) was an American photojournalist. Life and career Greene was born to middle class parents in Brooklyn. Both his parents were actors. His father, who was born in Harlem, was a union organizer, one of the first African Americans elected as an officer in the Screen Actors Guild, and belonged to the Harlem Renaissance movement. Greene's father was blacklisted as a Communist in the 1950s and forced to take uncredited parts in movies. Greene's parents gave him his first camera when he was eleven years old. Greene began his art career as a painter, but started taking photos as a means of cataloging material for his paintings. Uche Okpa-Iroha
Uche Okpa-Iroha (born in Enugu in 1972) is a Nigerian multidisciplinary artist who mainly adopts photography as his preferred medium of artistic expression. He is a founding member of the Blackbox Collective and Invisible Borders Trans-African Organisation and in 2013, he founded and established The Nlele Institute, where he serves as Director. He is a two-time winner of the Seydou Keita Prize for photography, and he has also won the Jean-Paul Blachere prize. He currently lives and works in Lagos. Cristina De Middel
Cristina de Middel (born 1975) is a Spanish documentary photographer and artist living and working in Uruapan, Mexico. De Middel self-published ''The Afronauts'' in 2012, a photobook about the short-lived Zambian space program in Southern Africa. The book quickly sold out and the work was met with critical acclaim. She was nominated for the 2013 Deutsche Börse Photography Prize for ''The Afronauts''. In 2013, de Middel received the Infinity Award from the International Center of Photography. Namsa Leuba
Namsa Leuba (born 1982) is a Swiss-Guinean art director and photographer. She studied at Swiss schools and afterwards at the School of Visual Arts in New York City. Her work mainly focuses on the African identity as seen through Western eyes, due to her Western education. According to an interview with “My Art Guides”, she became interested in the animistic side of Guinean culture as a child. Cyrus Kabiru (born ) is a Kenyan visual artist. He is known for his sculptural eyewear made of found objects, and is part of the Afrofuturism cultural movement. He is a self taught artist. Biography Cyrus Kabiru was born on in Nairobi, Kenya. He is known for his sculptural eyewear made of found objects. Glenna Gordon (born 3 May 1981) is an American documentary photographer, photojournalist, editor, and educator based in New York City. She is known for documenting such event as the Ebola outbreak, ISIS and Al Qaeda's hostage situations, and the kidnapping of more than two hundred and fifty Nigerian school girls. Kudzanai Chiurai
Kudzanai Chiurai (born 1981) is a Zimbabwean artist and activist. His repertoire of art combines the use of mixed media which involves the use of paintings, drawings, videos and photographs to address and tackle social, political and cultural issues in Zimbabwe.
