Lafayette Pavilion Apartments is a high-rise residential apartment building in Detroit, Michigan. It is located at 1 Lafayette Plaisance, near Gratiot Avenue and Interstate 375 (Michigan), I-375, near Chene Park. Construction began in 1955 and was completed in 1958. The building, whose exterior was constructed primarily of aluminum and glass, is 22 floors in height, and was designed in the International architecture, international architectural style. The Lafayette Pavilion Apartments are one of four towers in the Lafayette Park, Detroit, Lafayette Park Neighborhoods and projects in Detroit, Michigan, development. The other three are the Windsor Tower (Detroit), Windsor Tower, and the Lafayette Towers Apartments. Ludwig Mies van der Rohe ( ; ; born Maria Ludwig Michael Mies; March 27, 1886August 17, 1969) was a German-American architect, academic, and interior designer. He was commonly referred to as Mies, his surname. He is regarded as one of the pioneers of modern architecture. In the 1930s, Mies was the last director of the Bauhaus, a ground-breaking school of modernist art, design and architecture. The Windsor Tower () was an office building in the financial center of Madrid, Spain. Built in 1979, it was high and had 32 floors of which 29 were above ground level and 3 below.
