Ladysmith-Oceanside
Ladysmith-Oceanside is a provincial Electoral district (Canada), electoral district for the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia, Canada. Created under the 2021 British Columbia electoral redistribution, the riding was first contested in the 2024 British Columbia general election. It was created out parts of Parksville-Qualicum and Nanaimo-North Cowichan. Geography The district wraps around the city of Nanaimo, bringing together the town of Ladysmith, British Columbia, Ladysmith and surrounding communities in the Cowichan Valley Regional District, rural areas in the inland west of the Regional District of Nanaimo, and the Oceanside, British Columbia, Oceanside region north of Greater Nanaimo, including Nanoose Bay, Parksville, British Columbia, Parksville and Qualicum Beach. Stephanie Higginson
Stephanie Higginson is a Canadian politician who was elected to the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia in the 2024 British Columbia general election, 2024 general election. She represents the electoral district of Ladysmith-Oceanside as a member of the British Columbia New Democratic Party, New Democratic Party of British Columbia (BC NDP). Early life and career Higginson lives with her husband and two children in Cedar, British Columbia, Cedar, British Columbia. She holds a Master of Arts degree in educational studies and is a small business owner, education consultant, and former secondary school teacher. The 2024 British Columbia general election was held on October 19, 2024, to elect 93 members (MLAs) of the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia, Legislative Assembly to serve in the 43rd parliament of the Provinces and territories of Canada, Canadian province of British Columbia. Oceanside is a name adopted for a group of communities on the eastern coast of Vancouver Island in British Columbia, Canada. It is part of the Regional District of Nanaimo and includes the City of Parksville and the Town of Qualicum Beach as well as the unincorporated communities of Nanoose Bay, Coombs, Errington, French Creek, Bowser, Deep Bay, Qualicum Bay and a few other smaller centres. 2021 British Columbia Electoral Redistribution
An electoral redistribution in British Columbia was undertaken by the BC Electoral Boundaries Commission in 2021. On October 21, 2021, the Government of British Columbia appointed Justice Nitya Iyer, Linda Tynan and Chief Electoral Officer Anton Boegman to serve as the 2021 commissioners. Justice Iyer was appointed the chair. The commission is required to complete redistricting every two election cycles. The final number of provincial electoral districts, and thus seats in the next legislature, will not be known until redistricting has occurred. The commission is required to complete its preliminary report by October 21, 2022, and its final report six months later. In May 2021, the government introduced legislation that removed a requirement that no reduction in seats could be considered for certain rural regions.
