Lady Shizuka
Shizuka GozenNote: ''Gozen'' is not a name, but rather an honorific title, usually translated as "Lady", though the title was bestowed upon men on rare occasions as well. (静御前) (1165–1211), or Lady Shizuka, one of the most famous women in Japanese history and literature, was a ''shirabyōshi'' (court dancer) of the 12th century, and a mistress of Minamoto no Yoshitsune. Since she, like many others, are featured largely in the ''Heike Monogatari'' (Tale of Heike), ''Gikeiki'' (Chronicle of Yoshitsune), and a number of plays of various traditions, her story is quite well known, but it is difficult to separate fact from fiction within it. Funa Benkei
is a Japanese Noh play written by Kanze Kojirô Nobumitsu, eventually adapted to Kabuki by Kawatake Mokuami in 1885. It was staged for the first time in November that year and starred Ichikawa Danjūrō IX. The play is set in the period of Minamoto no Yoshitsune’s downfall, when his elder brother Minamoto no Yoritomo, seeing Yoshitsune as a rival power, excludes him from the royal family despite his loyal performance in battle. Yoshitsune decides to escape and meet up with his retainer Benkei at Daimotsu no Ura port. While at a hotel en route, his girlfriend Shizuka Gozen, Shizuka dances for him, and her headdress falls off during the dance. It is a bad omen, so she leaves, and returns to Kyoto. Yoshitsune continues his journey the next day and boards the boat, where they are struck by a dangerous storm. During the storm they are attacked by ghosts of the sea, among them Taira no Tomomori. ''Samurai Shodown'' (known as ''Samurai Spirits'' in Japan) is a 2019 fighting game developed by KOF Studio and published by SNK for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, Stadia, Xbox Series X and Series S, Android and iOS via Netflix Games, and Windows as an entry in the ''Samurai Shodown'' series, as well as a reboot to the series. An arcade version was released by Taito. Gameplay Samurai Shodown is a 2D fighting game with 3D graphics that uses many elements from past games in the series. Michiyo Akaishi
is a Japanese manga artist. She graduated from Saitama Prefectural Dai-Ichi Girls High School. Akaishi then attended Musashino Art University where she graduated with a degree in commercial plastic model design. In 1979, she won first place in the Shogakukan Shinjin Comic Award contest. Akaishi's debut story, ''Marshmallow Tea wa Hitori de'', appeared in the January 1980 issue of ''Betsucomi, Bessatsu Shōjo Comic''. Her story, ''One More Jump '', won the 1994 Shogakukan Manga Award for Children's anime and manga, children's manga. She was one of the judges for the 53rd Shogakukan Manga Awards in 2008. Saito Musashibo Benkei
, popularly known by the mononym Benkei (), was a Japanese warrior monk (''sōhei'') who lived in the latter years of the Heian Period (794–1185). Benkei led a varied life, first becoming a monk, then a mountain ascetic, and then a rogue warrior. He later came to respect and serve the famous warrior Minamoto no Yoshitsune, also known as Ushiwakamaru. He is commonly depicted as a man of great strength and loyalty, and a popular subject of Japanese folklore showcased in many ancient and modern literature and productions. The earliest records of Benkei are in the ''Azuma Kagami'', ''The Tale of the Heike'', and the ''Genpei Jōsuiki''—all sources from around a century or more after Benkei's life. is a Japanese television drama series originally broadcast between 9 January and 11 December 2005, with a three-part special compilation being aired from 24 December to 25 December 2005. is the name NHK gives to the annual year-long historical drama television series it broadcasts in Japan. Beginning in 1963 with the black-and-white ''Hana no Shōgai'', starring kabuki actor Onoe Shoroku II and Awashima Chikage, the network regularly hires different writers, directors, and other creative staff for each taiga drama.
