Lady Robinhood
''Lady Robinhood'' is a 1925 American silent drama film directed by Ralph Ince, starring Evelyn Brent, and featuring Boris Karloff. Plot As described in a film magazine reviews, in one of the provinces of Spain, cut off by impassable roads, is a people who are ruled by a tyrannical governor and his friend, Cabraza. The ward of the governor, Senorita Catalina, is sympathetic with the peasants and convict labor and, by impersonating a "Lady Robinhood," seeks to gain for them relief. An American, Hugh Winthrop, enters the province and is captured by La Ortiga (the feminine of Robinhood). He escapes and returns to the palace of the governor where he notices the similarity of the Senorita Catalina to La Ortiga. Confronted, she breaks into tears. Each confesses their love for the other. Ralph Ince
Ralph Waldo Ince (January 16, 1887 – April 10, 1937) was an American pioneer film actor, director and screenwriter whose career began near the dawn of the silent film, silent film era. Ralph Ince was the brother of John Ince (actor), John E. Ince and Thomas H. Ince. Biography Ralph Ince was born on January 16, 1887, in Boston, the youngest of three sons and a daughter raised by English immigrants, John and Emma Ince. Sometime after his birth Ince moved to Manhattan where his entire family was engaged in theater work; his father as a musical agent and mother, sister Bertha and brothers, John and Thomas as actors. Ralph Ince studied art with cartoonist Dan McCarthy and for a while worked as a newspaper cartoonist for the New York World and later magazine illustrator for the New York Mirror and The Evening Telegram. Lost Film
A lost film is a feature film, feature or short film in which the original negative or copies are not known to exist in any studio archive, private collection, or public archive. Films can be wholly or partially lost for a number of reasons. Early films were not thought to have value beyond their theatrical run, so many were discarded afterward. Nitrate film used in early pictures was highly flammable and susceptible to degradation. The Library of Congress began acquiring copies of American films in 1909, but not all were kept. Boris Karloff (1887–1969) was an English actor. He became known for his role as Frankenstein's monster in the 1931 ''Frankenstein'' (his 82nd film), leading to a long career in film, radio, and television. Born William Henry Pratt in England,Mank, p. 343 he emigrated to Canada in 1909 as a young man and eventually joined a Canadian touring company, adopting the stage name Boris Karloff. By 1919, Karloff moved to Hollywood where he found regular work as an extra at Universal Studios.
