Ladislav Slovák
Ladislav Slovák (10 September 1919, Veľké Leváre – 22 July 1999, Bratislava) was a Slovak conductor. He was a long-time director of the Slovak Philharmonic, taking over the job from his teacher and mentor Václav Talich. Amongst his most important recordings is the entire collection of Dmitri Shostakovich's fifteen symphonies with Slovak Radio Symphony Orchestra, published by Naxos Records. He studied in Leningrad under the Russian conductor Yevgeny Mravinsky, and met Shostakovich while participating in rehearsals of his music. Veľké Leváre
Veľké Leváre (, ) is a village and municipality in western Slovakia in Malacky District in the Bratislava region. The first written notice about the village has its origins in the year 1378. The village Veľké Leváre is situated in the reach of these well-known centers: Bratislava, Vienna, and Brno. The village is placed on a historically important trade route; its history is recorded as a settlement of archers and as a border watch post. Yevgeny Mravinsky
Yevgeny Aleksandrovich Mravinsky () (19 January 1988) was a Soviet and Russian conductor, pianist, and music pedagogue; he was a professor at Leningrad State Conservatory. Biography Mravinsky was born in Saint Petersburg. The soprano Yevgeniya Mravina was his aunt. His father, Alexandr Konstantinovich Mravinsky, died in 1918, and in that same year, the young Mravinsky began to work backstage at the Mariinsky Theatre, serving as a ballet répétiteur from 1923 to 1931. After initially studying biology at the university in Leningrad, in 1924 he succeeded in entering the Leningrad Conservatory as a non–fee–paying student thanks to his half-aunt Alexandra Kollontai, who recommended him to the rector, Alexander Glazunov, and the commissar for enlightenment, Anatoly Lunacharsky. Slovak National Theatre
The Slovak National Theater (, abbr. SND) is the oldest professional theatre in Slovakia, consisting of three ensembles: opera, ballet, and drama. Its history begins shortly after the establishment of the first Czechoslovak Republic in 1918. It is located in the capital, Bratislava. The theatre is currently based in two separate buildings: the historic Neo-Renaissance building at Gorkého 2 ( Hviezdoslavovo námestie) and the new SND building in the Old Town, opened on 14 April 2007, at Pribinova 17. Kamila Magálová
Kamila Magálová (; born 16 November 1950) is a Slovak film and stage actress, singer, and entrepreneur. She is a triple nominee for the TV-based OTO Awards. In addition to the performing arts, Magálová runs a hotel named after her in Čierna Voda. Biography Magálová is the daughter of conductor Ladislav Slovák and sister of actor Marián Slovák. She raised two children, a daughter and a son, who died in 2024. She studied acting at the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava, graduating in 1975. From 1973 to 1982, she was a member of the Poetic Ensemble of the New Stage (Poetický Súbor Novej Scény) in Bratislava, and since 1982, she has been a member of the Slovak National Theatre Drama department (Činohra Slovenského Národného Divadla), also in Bratislava. Alexander Moyzes
Alexander Moyzes (4 September 1906 – 20 November 1984) was a Slovak neoromantic composer. Biography Moyzes was born into a musical family in 1906 at Kláštor pod Znievom, Austro-Hungarian Empire. His father was the composer and educator Mikuláš Moyzes. After earlier technical studies, in 1925 he entered the Prague Conservatory, where he studied organ, conducting and composition. He graduated in 1929 and went on to study in the master class of Vítězslav Novák, from which he graduated in the following year with his ''Overture for Orchestra, Opus 10''. It was Novák who directed his attention to Slovak music, the source of his inspiration. In 1929, Moyzes was appointed to the teaching staff of the Music and Drama Academy for Slovakia in Bratislava.
