Ladies Be Seated
''Ladies Be Seated'' is an American old-time radio game show. It was broadcast on the Blue Network from June 4, 1943, to June 23, 1944, and on ABC from June 26, 1944, to July 21, 1950. At its peak in popularity, it was carried on 198 stations. Two versions were televised: one in 1945 and the other in 1949. Personnel Ed East and his wife, Polly, were the original hosts. They were joined by singers Lee Sullivan and Murray Grabhorn. When the Easts left the program, Johnny Olson and his wife, Penny, became the hosts on June 27, 1944. He wore "a glittering minstrel costume" in his new role. Penny Olson was both co-host and associate producer, responsible for developing stunts, selecting participants, and obtaining prizes for the show — she was known on the program as "Million Dollar Penny". WABC (AM)
WABC (770 AM broadcasting, AM) is a commercial radio station licensed to New York, New York, carrying a conservative talk radio format known as "Talkradio 77". Owned by John Catsimatidis' Red Apple Media, the station's studios are located in Red Apple Media headquarters on Third Avenue in Midtown Manhattan and its transmitter is in Lodi, New Jersey. Its 50,000-watt omnidirectional antenna, non-directional Clear-channel station, clear channel signal can be heard at night throughout much of the Eastern United States and Eastern Canada. It is the primary entry point for the Emergency Alert System in the New York metropolitan area and New Jersey. WABC simulcasts on WLIR-FM in Hampton Bays, New York, on eastern Long Island. Owned and operated by the American Broadcasting Company for much of its history, it is one of the country's oldest radio stations. Blue Network
The Blue Network (previously known as the NBC Blue Network) was the on-air name of a now defunct American Commercial broadcasting, radio network, which broadcast from 1927 through 1945. Beginning as one of the two radio networks owned by the NBC, National Broadcasting Company (NBC), the independent Blue Network was born of a divestiture in 1942, arising from antitrust litigation. In 1945, the Blue Network formally became the American Broadcasting Company (ABC). Early history The Blue Network dates to 1923, when the RCA, Radio Corporation of America acquired WABC (AM), WJZ in Newark, New Jersey, from Westinghouse Electric Corporation (1886), Westinghouse, which had established the station in 1921.
