Ladies' Night
A ladies' night is a promotional event, often at a bar or nightclub, where female patrons pay less than male patrons for the cover charge or alcoholic beverages. In the United States, state courts in California, Maryland, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin have ruled that ladies' night discounts are unlawful gender-based price discrimination under state or local statutes. However, courts in Illinois, Minnesota, and Washington have rejected a variety of challenges to such discounts. Health concerns Ladies' nights that promote discounts on alcoholic beverages may lead to increased binge drinking, which can be a safety and health hazard. Legality in the United States Federal law Claims against ladies' nights under the Equal Protection Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution have failed under the state action doctrine. Similar actions have failed under the Civil Rights Act of 1871 (42 U.S.C. § 1983). However, ladies' nights may have federal tax imp ...

(Miss)understood
''(Miss)understood'' (stylized in all lowercase) is the seventh studio album by Japanese singer-songwriter Ayumi Hamasaki. It was released on New Year's Day 2006, by Avex Trax. Hamasaki acted as the album's sole lyricist, as she had on all of her preceding albums. ''(Miss)understood'' marked new musical directions for Hamasaki: she explored new influences such as funk and used gospel choruses in some of the songs, foreign to her previous works. This was the result of her having heard compositions by Geo from the German-based pop music project Sweetbox and asking him for his works. Subsequently, Hamasaki rewrote the lyrics entirely to fit ''(Miss)understood''. Lyrically, the album was a departure from her previous work, '' My Story'', which had been primarily autobiographical. Where ''My Story'' had contained "musings about her past", Hamasaki wanted the lyricism on ''(Miss)understood'' to send a strong message to all women—to be a kind of "girls' talk" to give "moral support", ...

Ladies' Night (baseball)
Ladies' Day, also referred to as Ladies' Night if held during night games, was a baseball promotional event in Major League Baseball aimed at women baseball fans from early to mid 20th century. It was a common fixture at baseball stadiums until the rise of the Women's Liberation Movement in the 1970s, after which it was eventually discontinued as it was seen as being discriminatory to men. History Though Ladies' Day had existed in baseball since the 19th century, the idea was to create an environment in the stands free of unsavory characters and conduct and to make baseball a family-oriented event. The New York Gothams reportedly held the first Ladies' Day in 1883. Ladies' Day was reintroduced in 1913 by Helene Hathaway Britton, the owner of the St. Louis Cardinals and the first woman to own a baseball team. The Cardinals Ladies' Day promotion allowed women free entry to the park if accompanied by a man. The promotion gained popularity after World War I. This was due, in pa ...

Ladies' Night (album)
''Ladies' Night'' is the eleventh studio album by the American band Kool & the Gang, released in 1979. It became their first Platinum success, spurred on by two million selling Top Ten singles: the title track "Ladies' Night," (No. 4 in ''Cash Box''; No. 8 in ''Billboard'') and " Too Hot" (No. 5 in ''Billboard''). The album returned them to the mainstream after a lull in their popularity. ''Ladies' Night'' hit number one on the U.S. R&B chart. All the cuts from the album reached number five on the disco chart. With ''Ladies' Night'', Kool & the Gang made their funk style more mainstream by incorporating some pop and light R&B into the sound. The result was that this album was not only popular during the 1970s black-oriented funk era where the band started, but also during the more popular and diverse disco era. ''Ladies' Night'' became their first million selling LP. It also marked the debut of lead vocalist James "J.T." Taylor. Critical reception The ''Bay State Banner'' note ...
