Labor Party (South Korea)
The Labor Party () is a democratic socialist political party in South Korea. History After the New Progressive Party and the Socialist Party voted to unite in 2012, the Labor Party was officially formed the following year. It held its interim party congress on 21 July 2013. On 5 February 2022, it was announced that the unregistered Socialist Revolutionary Workers' Party agreed to merge with the Labor Party in order to create a unified socialist vision for the 2022 South Korean presidential election under candidate Lee Baek-yoon. Since 2025, the Labor Party has been working in solidarity with the Justice Party and Green Party, creating Korea's version of a left-wing traffic light coalition. The Labor Party announced in early 2025 that they would join the alliance, forming the traffic light coalition. New Progressive Party (South Korea)
The New Progressive Party (NPP; ) was a political party in South Korea. The New Progressive Party was established by a number of Democratic Labor Party members (known as 'People's Democracy Faction') who left the party in reaction to the dominating Minjokhaebang factions. History The first party president was Roh Hoe-chan, who was elected at the 2004 Parliamentary election as a member of the Democratic Labor Party. The NPP failed to take seats in the National Assembly in the 2008 general election, despite Roh Hoe-chan being expected to win a seat, being that he was winning in most of the pre-vote surveys. In the 29 April 2009 by-election, the NPP looked to win a seat for the district of Ulsan based on its pro-Labor population statistics. Traffic Light Coalition
In German politics, a traffic light coalition () is a coalition government of the Social Democratic Party (SPD), the Free Democratic Party (FDP) and Alliance 90/The Greens. It is named after the parties' traditional colours, respectively red, yellow, and green, matching the colour sequence of a traffic light (''Ampel''). So far, the only instance of a traffic light coalition on a federal level in Germany has been in Olaf Scholz' cabinet between 2021 and its collapse over disagreements in November 2024. Hong Sehwa
Hong Sehwa (; 10 December 1947 – 18 April 2024) was a South Korean journalist and New Progressive Party delegate. He was known as a representative South Korean socialist. Hong criticised imperialism and nationalism, according to the socialist perspective. Political views Hong evaluated that both extreme right-wing anti-North Korean statist "conservatives" and anti-Japanese nationalist " liberals" are nti-socialistconservatives, and that true progressives or leftists have never had a government in South Korean politics. Hong Sehwa was critical of South Korean liberals' anti-Japanese nationalism. The Progressive Party (), formerly known as the Minjung Party (, ) until June 2020, is a left-wing progressive and left-wing nationalist political party in South Korea. History The Progressive Party (then called the Minjung Party) was formed on 15 October 2017 as a merger of the New People's Party and People's United Party. Both parties were continuations of the Unified Progressive Party, a party that was dissolved and banned by a Constitutional Court ruling in 2014 for its allegedly pro-North Korean and "anti-constitutional" activity.
