La Strada (album)
''La strada'' is the debut and only album by the Serbian alternative rock La Strada, released by M Produkcija Radio Novog Sada in 1987. Despite being released in LP format in 500 copies only and never rereleased on CD, the album is considered a highly influential release on the former Yugoslav scene. La Strada (band)
La Strada ( sr-Cyrl, Ла Страда; Italian for ''The Road'') was a Serbian and former Yugoslav new wave and later alternative rock band from Novi Sad. Formed in 1979 by Slobodan Tišma, the band recorded a three-song demo which was often broadcast on Radio Novi Sad. Having changed several lineups and despite having well received live appearances, the band disbanded in 1981. Tišma with at the time La Strada members Zoran Bulatović "Bale" and Ivan Fece "Firchie" formed Luna. After the Luna disbandment, in 1984 Tišma reformed La Strada with the former La Strada bassist Danijel Stari, former Luna member Jasmina Mitrušić "Mina", guitarist Žolt Horvat and drummer Robert Radić. The lineup entered the studio during the same year, however, it was in 1987 that the eponymous debut album ''La strada'' was released. Alternative rock (also known as alternative music, alt-rock or simply alternative) is a category of rock music that evolved from the independent music underground of the 1970s. Alternative rock acts achieved mainstream success in the 1990s with the likes of the grunge, shoegaze, and Britpop subgenres in the United States and United Kingdom, respectively. During this period, many record labels were looking for "alternatives", as many corporate rock, hard rock, and glam metal acts from the 1980s were beginning to grow stale throughout the music industry. The emergence of Generation X as a cultural force in the 1990s also contributed greatly to the rise of alternative rock. "Alternative" refers to the genre's distinction from mainstream or commercial rock or pop. The LP (from "long playing" or "long play") is an analog sound storage medium, a phonograph record format characterized by: a speed of rpm; a 12- or 10-inch (30- or 25-cm) diameter; use of the "microgroove" groove specification; and a vinyl (a copolymer of vinyl chloride acetate) composition disk. Introduced by Columbia in 1948, it was soon adopted as a new standard by the entire record industry. Veliki Prezir ( sr-cyr, Велики Презир; trans. ''The Great Contempt'') is a Serbian alternative rock band from Vrbas. History 1990s Veliki Prezir was formed on June 1994 by a former Holidays member Vladimir Kolarić "Kole" (vocals, guitar), Slavko Kontra (guitar), Predrag Ilčešin (bass guitar) and Dušan Kuzmanović (drums), choosing the band name by the Jean-Luc Godard film ''Le Mépris''. Novembar (Serbian Cyrillic: Новембар; trans. ''November'') is a Serbian punk rock band from Niš. History Studeni Studeni, band formation (1986–1991) During the late 1980s, one of the most promising former Yugoslav bands from Zagreb, Studeni Studeni (trans. ''Cold November''), were formed in 1986. The band recorded only an EP, ''Čisto kao suza'' (''Bright as a Teardrop''), released in 1990, before disbanding in the early 1990s, due to the outbreak of the Yugoslav wars. The band's frontman, guitarist and vocalist Goran Kostić moved to Niš, during the Summer of 1991, and immediately started playing bass guitar in a band called Glas Amerike.
