''La regata veneziana'' (The Venetian Regatta) is the title of two different compositions by Gioachino Rossini. A duet with that title ("Voga, o Tonio benedeto") is catalogued as ''Les soirées musicales, No. 9'' and a set of three canonzettas with that title is catalogued in his ''Péchés de vieillesse'' in Volume 1 ''Album italiano'' as Nos. 8-10. Gioachino Rossini
Gioachino Antonio Rossini (29 February 1792 – 13 November 1868) was an Italian composer who gained fame for his 39 operas, although he also wrote many songs, some chamber music and piano pieces, and some sacred music. He set new standards for both comic and serious opera before retiring from large-scale composition while still in his thirties, at the height of his popularity. Born in Pesaro to parents who were both musicians (his father a trumpeter, his mother a singer), Rossini began to compose by the age of 12 and was educated at music school in Bologna. His first opera was performed in Venice in 1810 when he was 18 years old. In 1815 he was engaged to write operas and manage theatres in Naples. In the period 1810–1823 he wrote 34 operas for the Italian stage that were performed in Venice, Milan, Ferrara, Naples and elsewhere; this productivity necessitated an almost formulaic approach for some components (such as overtures) and a certain amount of self-borrowing. Vesselina Kasarova
Vesselina Kasarova ( bg, Веселина Кацарова; born 18 July 1965) is a Bulgarian operatic mezzo-soprano. Early life and education Kasarova was born in the central Bulgarian town of Stara Zagora. Under the communist regime she studied Russian as a second language and had an early start in music education. She started taking piano lessons at the Pionerski Dom at age 4 (in 1970) and enrolled at Hristina Morfova School of Music and Performing Arts (normal studies in the morning, and music in the afternoon) in her native town in 1979. As she studied piano and worked as accompanist at recitals, Kasarova became so drawn to the voice as a musical instrument that upon earning her concert pianist diploma in 1987, she switched to study singing under Ressa Koleva at Bulgarian State Music Academy in Sofia, focusing on the works of Mozart and Rossini. Andrea Rost (born 15 June 1962) is a Hungarian lyric soprano. She has performed in leading roles with the Vienna State Opera, La Scala, the Royal Opera House, Opéra National de Paris, the Metropolitan Opera and the Salzburg Festival. The year 1997 saw the release of her first solo recording, ''Le delizie dell’amor'', featuring arias from bel canto, Verdi and Puccini operas. Biography Andrea Rost was born in Budapest. She graduated from the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music as the pupil of Zsolt Bende. She was still a student with a scholarship from the Budapest Opera when she sang Juliette in Gounod’s Romeo et Juliette at the Budapest Opera House in 1989. Two years later, in 1991, she became the soloist of the Staatsoper in Vienna, where she sang all her major roles; the connoisseur audience of Vienna heard her magnificent performances of the roles of Zerlina through Adina and Susanna to Lucia di Lammermoor and Violetta, as well as at a number of concerts.
