La Red (Uruguayan TV Channel)
La Red (The Network) is a Uruguayan television network based out of Montevideo that feeds programming from the three commercial television stations of the capital (4, 10, 12) to television stations in the Uruguayan inland. The three stations also share the network's ownership. Some stations affiliated to the network are owned by one of the three groups. History On July 24, 1980, during the dictatorship, the Romay (Monte Carlo), Fontaina-De Feo (SAETA) and De Scheck (Teledoce) groups signed a resolution for an inland television network to combat the reception of television stations from Brazil and Argentina, which were easily available in border areas due to spillover. Red Uruguaya de Televisión Sociedad Anónima (RUTSA) was founded on August 25, 1981, following the growth of television stations outside of Montevideo, which began in 1966 with the establishment of Río Uruguay Televisión in Fray Bentos. In high-definition television (HDTV) and video display technology, 1080i is a video display format with 1080 lines of vertical resolution and Interlaced video, interlaced scanning method. This format was once a standard in HDTV. It was particularly used for broadcast television because it can deliver high-resolution images without needing excessive bandwidth. Teledoce Televisora Color, also known as Canal 12 is a Uruguayan free-to-air television network, located in the capital of Uruguay, Montevideo. It is owned by Grupo Disco. Television transmissions commenced in 1962. History It was the third and last private free-to-air channel that opened in Montevideo. Studios are located on 1276 Enriqueta Compte y Riqué Street, being the only one of the private ones that was always kept in its original place. Its first director was Raúl Galana, but soon Horacio Scheck took his place. The station's antenna was installed for several years on the roof of the newspaper ''El País'', but for several years it has been located in the Congress Tower, in the Tres Cruces district. The first slogan was "The Family Channel". Analog television in Uruguay had a history of more than 50 years since it began in 1956, with the first television channel, Saeta TV Channel 10, Channel 10. Since then Uruguay has three other channels, Channel 12 Teledoce, Channel 4 Monte Carlo TV and Television Nacional Uruguay Cable television Cable television is largely controlled by the Equital conglomerate, founded in 1991, which is owned in equal parts by the three private television stations of Montevideo. Each network owns a cable company: Teledoce owns Nuevo Siglo, Monte Carlo, Montecable and SAETA, TCC. The tripartite conglomerate monopolizes pay television in Montevideo and parts of the inland, controlling at least one of the two providers available in Colonia del Sacramento, Salto, Paysandú, Treinta y Tres, Melo, Durazno, Minas, Rocha and Tacuarembó.
