La Mira
La Mira is a peak of the Sierra de Gredos range in central Spain. It is located in the central part of the Sierra de Gredos range, a subrange of the larger Sistema Central, in the autonomous community of Castile and León. Listed at , it marks the common boundary of Arenas de San Pedro, Guisando, El Hornillo and Hoyos del Espino municipalities. Like many of the highest mountains in the range La Mira is notable for its quite important local relief relative to the south side, where the Tiétar Valley is located at . The relative prominence, , is not that great, as it is connected to Pico Almanzor (), the highest mountain of Sistema Central. The climbing is quite easy: the top can be reached both through the north and the south side. The northern access starts at Plataforma de Gredos (), while the southern access starts at Nogal del Barranco (). The Sierra de Gredos is a mountain range in central Spain that spans the provinces of Ávila, Salamanca, Cáceres, Madrid, and Toledo. It is part of the much larger Sistema Central of mountain ranges. Sistema Central
The Central System, Spanish and pt, Sistema Central, is one of the main systems of mountain ranges in the Iberian Peninsula. The 2,592 m high Pico Almanzor is its highest summit. Pico Almanzor
Pico Almanzor is the highest mountain in central Spain. Situated in the Sierra de Gredos in the province of Ávila, Almanzor is high. It is made of granite. The mountain is also known as ''Pico de Almanzor'' and ''Moro Almanzor''. History The mountain got its name from Al-Mansur (Arabic for "the victorious"). Al-Mansur Ibn Abi Aamir was a general and statesman in Muslim Spain (Caliphate of Cordoba) during the late 10th century. Muhammad bin Abi Amir was his real name; the Moors in Spain gave him the title of Al-Mansur due to his victories over the Christians. During his many campaigns, Al-Mansur passed near this mountain and he was captivated by its beauty. Pico Almanzor was climbed for the first time in September 1899 by M.
