Large Woody Debris
Large woody debris (LWD) are the logs, sticks, branches, and other wood that falls into streams and rivers. This debris can influence the flow and the shape of the stream channel. Large woody debris, grains, and the shape of the bed of the stream are the three main providers of flow resistance, and are thus a major influence on the shape of the stream channel. Some stream channels have less LWD than they would naturally because of removal by watershed managers for flood control and aesthetic reasons. The study of woody debris is important for its forestry management implications. Plantation thinning can reduce the potential for recruitment of LWD into proximal streams. The presence of large woody debris is important in the formation of pools which serve as salmon habitat in the Pacific Northwest. Logging While Drilling
Logging while drilling (LWD) is a technique of conveying well logging tools of the formation data during drilling operations into the well borehole downhole as part of the bottom hole assembly (BHA). Although the terms Measurement while drilling (MWD) and LWD are related, within the context of this section, the term MWD refers to directional-drilling measurements, e.g., for decision support for the smooth operation of the drilling, while LWD refers to measurements concerning the geological formation made while drilling. WD tools work with its measurement while drilling (MWD) system to transmit partial or complete measurement results to the surface via typically a drilling mud pulser or other improved techniques, while LWD tools are still in the borehole, which is called "real-time data". Lotnicze Warsztaty Doświadczalne
''Lotnicze Warsztaty Doświadczalne'' (LWD) was the Polish aerospace manufacturer and construction bureau, located in Łódź, active between 1945 and 1950. The name meant Aircraft Experimental Workshops. It was the first Polish post-war aerospace construction bureau. History World War II and German occupation destroyed the whole Polish aviation industry. After eastern Poland was liberated, in October 1944 a group of designers gathered in Lublin as a Design Bureau in the Ministry of Communication. It was directed by Aleksander Sułkowski, but Tadeusz Sołtyk became the main designer. In primitive conditions, the bureau started work on a utility aircraft, the Szpak-1. In early 1945 the construction bureau moved to liberated Łódź. On April 1, 1945, the bureau established the Aircraft Experimental Workshops (LWD), subordinated to the Ministry of Communication.
