LTI TX1
The LTI TX1 is a Hackney carriage (London "Black cab") introduced by London Taxis International in 1997 and designed to replace the ageing Austin FX4. It was designed by British product designer Kenneth Grange. Most are powered by the TD27 diesel engine from Nissan, a relationship which began in late FX4s. In 2002, it was replaced by the TXII, which used the Ford Duratorq engine as found in the Ford Transit, Mondeo, and Land Rover Defender. Unlike modernistic van-shaped experimental cabs, the body was designed to recall several distinctive styling cues of the FX4. Upon completion, it was submitted to cab drivers for their approval and won their acceptance as sufficiently maintaining the spirit of the London cab. Kenneth Grange
Sir Kenneth Henry Grange (17 July 1929 – 21 July 2024) was a British industrial designer, renowned for a wide range of designs for familiar, everyday objects. He was also a co-founder of Pentagram design in 1972. Early life Kenneth Henry Grange was born on 17 July 1929, in east London. His mother, Hilda (née Long), was a machinist and his father, Harry, a policeman. The family moved to Wembley, north London at the outbreak of the second world war, where his father was a bomb disposal officer. Following the move, Grange changed schools from a fee-paying school (where he had a scholarship) in the City of London offering a classical education, to one where "making and creativity" were prioritised. In 1944 he was awarded a scholarship to study commercial art at the Willesden School of Art and Crafts. London Taxi International
Carbodies was a taxi design and manufacturing company based in Coventry, England. In its latter years it also traded as London Taxis International and The London Taxi Company. It operated a coachbuilding business on Holyhead Road, Coventry. After half a century making short runs of limited demand bodies for major manufacturers it was obliged to replace these now moribund activities and in 1971 took from its former customer and supplier of taxi chassis, Austin, the manufacture of complete London taxicabs. Two years later was bought by Manganese Bronze Holdings. The Ford Transit is a family of light commercial vehicles manufactured by the Ford Motor Company since 1965, primarily as a panel van, cargo van, but also available in other configurations including a large passenger van (marketed as the Ford Tourneo in some markets since 1995), cutaway van chassis, and a pickup truck. Cabvision
Cabvision are a major credit card payment providers in London having originally started as a digital screen network operating exclusively in Licensed Taxis. Cabvision Limited was sold in 2010 and now forms part of Cabvision Network Ltd which designs, fits and operates payment systems in Licensed Taxis. The company is an "Approved Supplier" of Transport for London and is regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority. Payment devices Cabvision Network are the only TfL approved supplier to offer both an integrated with fare meter system and a Mobile Point of Sale system for London that is installed in the taxi. Hardware from Ingencio forms the original offer and the Miura M10 is the "CabPay" system that works via the drivers mobile phone.
