Lumpy Skin Disease
Lumpy skin disease (LSD) is an infectious disease in cattle caused by Lumpy skin disease virus of the family ''Poxviridae'', also known as Neethling virus. The disease is characterized by fever, enlarged superficial lymph nodes, and multiple nodules (measuring in diameter) on the skin and mucous membranes, including those of the respiratory and gastrointestinal tracts. Infected cattle may also develop edematous swelling in their limbs and exhibit lameness. The virus has important economic implications since affected animals tend to have permanent damage to their skin, lowering the commercial value of their hide. Additionally, the disease often results in chronic debility, reduced milk production, poor growth, infertility, abortion, and sometimes death. Onset of fever occurs almost one week after infection by the virus. This initial fever may exceed and persist for one week. At this time, all of the superficial lymph nodes become enlarged. The nodules, which the disease is cha ...

Low Sulfur Diesel
Ultra-low-sulfur diesel (ULSD) is diesel fuel with substantially lowered sulfur content. Since 2006, almost all of the petroleum-based diesel fuel available in Europe and North America has been of a ULSD type. The move to lower sulfur content allows for the application of advanced emissions control technologies that substantially lower the harmful emissions from diesel combustion. Testing by engine manufacturers and regulatory bodies have found the use of emissions control devices in conjunction with ULSD can reduce the exhaust output of ozone precursors and particulate matter to near-zero levels. In 1993 the European Union began mandating the reduction of diesel sulfur content and implementing modern ULSD specifications in 1999. The United States started phasing in ULSD requirements for highway vehicles in 2006, with implementation for off-highway applications, such as locomotive and marine fuel, beginning in 2007. Lubricity Sulfur is not a lubricant in and of itself, but it ...

Log-spectral Distance
The log-spectral distance (LSD), also referred to as log-spectral distortion or root mean square log-spectral distance, is a distance measure between two spectra. The log-spectral distance between spectra P\left(\omega\right) and \hat\left(\omega\right) is defined as p-norm: : D_=^, where P\left(\omega\right) and \hat\left(\omega\right) are power spectra. Unlike the Itakura–Saito distance, the log-spectral distance is symmetric. In speech coding, log spectral distortion for a given frame is defined as the root mean square difference between the original LPC log power spectrum and the quantized or interpolated LPC log power spectrum. Usually the average of spectral distortion over a large number of frames is calculated and that is used as the measure of performance of quantization or interpolation. Meaning When measuring the distortion between signals, the scale or temporality/spatiality of the signals can have different levels of significance to the distortion measures. ...

Diffuser (thermodynamics)
A diffuser is "a device for reducing the velocity and increasing the static pressure of a fluid passing through a system”. The fluid's static pressure rise as it passes through a duct is commonly referred to as pressure recovery. In contrast, a nozzle is used to increase the discharge velocity and lower the pressure of a fluid passing through it. Frictional effects during analysis can sometimes be important, but usually they are neglected. Ducts containing fluids flowing at low velocity can usually be analyzed using Bernoulli's principle. Analyzing ducts flowing at higher velocities with Mach numbers in excess of 0.3 usually require compressible flow relations. A typical subsonic diffuser is a duct that increases in area in the direction of flow. As the area increases, fluid velocity decreases, and static pressure rises. Supersonic diffusers A supersonic diffuser is a duct that decreases in area in the direction of flow which causes the fluid temperature, pressure, and densi ...

Local Peer Discovery
The Local Peer Discovery protocol, specified as BEP-14, is an extension to the BitTorrent (protocol), BitTorrent file-distribution system. It is designed to support the discovery of local BitTorrent (protocol), BitTorrent peers, aiming to minimize the traffic through the Internet service provider's (ISP) channel and maximize use of higher-Bandwidth (computing), bandwidth local area networks (LANs). Local Peer Discovery is implemented with HTTP-like messages on User Datagram Protocol (UDP) IP multicast, multicast group 239.192.152.143:6771 (IPv4) or ff15::efc0:988f (IPv6) which are Multicast address#Administratively Scoped IPv4 Multicast addresses, administratively scoped multicast addresses. It's similar to Simple Service Discovery Protocol but sends BT-SEARCH instead of M-SEARCH: BT-SEARCH * HTTP/1.1\r\n Host: \r\n Port: \r\n Infohash: \r\n cookie: \r\n \r\n \r\n Since implementation is simple, Local Peer Discovery is implemented in several clients (μTorrent, BitTorrent ( ...

Limited Slip Differential
A limited-slip differential (LSD) is a type of differential gear train that allows its two output shafts to rotate at different speeds but limits the maximum difference between the two shafts. Limited-slip differentials are often known by the generic trademark Positraction, a brand name owned by General Motors and originally used for its Chevrolet branded vehicles. In an automobile, such limited-slip differentials are sometimes used in place of a standard differential, where they convey certain dynamic advantages, at the expense of greater complexity. Early history In 1932, Ferdinand Porsche designed a Grand Prix racing car for the Auto Union company. The high power of the design caused one of the rear wheels to experience excessive wheel spin at any speed up to . In 1935, Porsche commissioned the engineering firm ZF to design a limited-slip differential to improve performance. The ZF "sliding pins and cams" became available, and one example was the Type B-70 used during t ...

Limit State Design
Limit State Design (LSD), also known as Load And Resistance Factor Design (LRFD), refers to a design method used in structural engineering. A limit state is a condition of a structure beyond which it no longer fulfills the relevant design criteria.EN 1990:2002 E, Eurocode - Basis of Structural Design, CEN, November 29, 2001 The condition may refer to a degree of Structural load, loading or other actions on the structure, while the criteria refer to structural integrity, fitness for use, durability or other design requirements. A structure designed by LSD is proportioned to sustain all actions likely to occur during its design life, and to remain fit for use, with an appropriate level of Reliability engineering, reliability for each limit state. Building codes based on LSD implicitly define the appropriate levels of reliability by their prescriptions. The method of limit state design, developed in the USSR and based on research led by Professor N.S. Streletski, was introduced in US ...

Service Discovery
Service discovery is the process of automatically detecting devices and services on a computer network. It aims to reduce the manual configuration effort required from users and administrators. A service discovery protocol (SDP) is a network protocol that helps accomplish service discovery. Service discovery requires a common language to allow software agents to make use of one another's services without the need for continuous user intervention. Protocols There are many service discovery protocols, including: * Bluetooth Service Discovery Protocol (SDP) * Bonjour, e.g., Apple AirPrint * DNS Service Discovery (DNS-SD), a component of zero-configuration networking * DNS, as used for example in Kubernetes * Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP); its classification as a service discovery protocol is controversial * Internet Storage Name Service (iSNS) * Jini for Java objects. * Lightweight Service Discovery (LSD), for mobile ad hoc networks * Link Layer Discovery P ...
