''LP4'' is the fourth studio album by Ratatat, released on June 8, 2010. The name comes from the acronym for long play (LP), as it is their fourth album. It is similarly titled to their third release, '' LP3''. A majority of the tracks are from the same studio session as their previous album. Background The album largely features material produced during the session of Ratatat's previous album ''LP3'', recorded at Old Soul Studios in New York City. Evan Mast of the duo stated, "A lot of the sounds and palettes are similar, but I think the songs change pretty drastically." The duo experimented with different genres as well as synthesizer patches, percussion instruments, sound effects, and samples. ''Stroszek'' is a 1977 German tragicomedy film directed by Werner Herzog and starring Bruno S., Eva Mattes, and Clemens Scheitz. Written specifically for Bruno S., the film was shot in Plainfield, Wisconsin, and North Carolina. Most of the lead roles are played by non-actors. Plot Bruno Stroszek (Bruno S.) is a Berlin street performer. Mellotron
The Mellotron is an electro-mechanical musical instrument developed in Birmingham, England, in 1963. It is played by pressing its keys, each of which pushes a length of magnetic tape against a capstan, which pulls it across a playback head. As the key is released, the tape is retracted by a spring to its initial position. Different portions of the tape can be played to access different sounds. The Mellotron evolved from the similar Chamberlin, but could be mass-produced more efficiently. The first models were designed for the home and contained a variety of sounds, including automatic accompaniments. Bandleader Eric Robinson and television personality David Nixon helped promote the first instruments, and celebrities such as Princess Margaret were early adopters. AllMusic (previously known as All-Music Guide and AMG) is an American online music database. It catalogs more than three million album entries and 30 million tracks, as well as information on musicians and bands. Initiated in 1991, the database was first made available on the Internet in 1994. AllMusic is owned by RhythmOne.
