LOGNet
U.S. Army Logistics Network (LOGNet) a Community of Practice (CoP) for logisticians maintained by the Combined Arms Support Command, Fort Lee, Virginia. LOGNet is a U.S. Army-wide Logistics Network and enterprise level knowledge system that supports knowledge flow throughout the logistics community. LOGNet is part of the Battle Command Knowledge System (BCKS) program. The LOGNet Community of Practice promotes and enhances collaboration, communication and knowledge sharing among logisticians and combat troops. LOGNet is a networked system of Structured Professional Forums, knowledge centers and supporting toolkits that combine to provide an enterprise system for generation, management and application of knowledge products. Battle Command Knowledge System
The Battle Command Knowledge System (BCKS) is the change agent for implementing knowledge management (KM) capabilities into the training and military operations of the United States Army. BCKS is headquartered at the U.S. Army Combined Arms Center at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. History Army Professional Forums were informally implemented by volunteers who wanted to share their knowledge and experience with their peers in order to improve their profession. CompanyCommand.com and Platoon Leader were formally adopted by the U.S. Army in 2002. The Battle Command Knowledge System Professional Forums were formed in September 2004 to provide structure to this knowledge sharing process. Later, the NCOTeam.org was also supported and adopted by BCKS. By September 2004, there were four formal U.S. Army Professional Forums with approximately 20,000 members. Community Of Practice
A community of practice (CoP) is a group of people who "share a concern or a passion for something they do and learn how to do it better as they interact regularly". The concept was first proposed by cognitive anthropologist Jean Lave and educational theorist Etienne Wenger in their 1991 book ''Situated Learning'' . Wenger then significantly expanded on the concept in his 1998 book ''Communities of Practice'' . A CoP can evolve naturally because of the members' common interest in a particular domain or area, or it can be created deliberately with the goal of gaining knowledge related to a specific field. It is through the process of sharing information and experiences with the group that members learn from each other, and have an opportunity to develop personally and professionally . Combined Arms Support Command
The U.S. Army Combined Arms Support Command (CASCOM), a major subordinate command of the Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC), is located at Fort Lee, Virginia. Under the CASCOM command is the Sustainment Center of Excellence (SCoE). Mission CASCOM provides Training and Leader Development, and develops concepts, doctrine, organizations, lifelong learning, and materiel solutions, to provide Sustainment in support of a campaign quality Army with joint and expeditionary capabilities. Fort Lee, in Prince George County, Virginia, United States, is a United States Army post and headquarters of the United States Army Combined Arms Support Command (CASCOM)/ Sustainment Center of Excellence (SCoE), the U.S. Army Quartermaster School, the U.S. Army Ordnance School, the U.S. Army Transportation School, the Army Logistics University (ALU), Defense Contract Management Agency (DCMA), and the U.S. Defense Commissary Agency (DeCA).
