Aeronca L-3
The Aeronca L-3 group of observation and liaison aircraft were used by the United States Army Air Corps in World War II. The L-3 series were adapted from Aeronca's pre-war Aeronca 50 Chief, Tandem Trainer and Chief models. Design and development In 1941, the United States Army Air Corps ordered four examples of the Aeronca Chief family, Aeronca 65 TC Defender, designated YO-58, for evaluation of the suitability of light aircraft for observation and liaison purposes. (It also placed similar orders with Piper Aircraft, Piper and Taylorcraft Aircraft). Service tests during the US Army's annual maneuvers proved successful, and resulted in large orders being placed. Ellen Henrietta Ranyard
Ellen Henrietta Ranyard (9 January 1810 – 11 February 1879) was an English writer and missionary who worked with the poor of London. She founded the London Bible and Domestic Female Mission. Life She was born Ellen Henrietta White in the district of Nine Elms, London, the eldest daughter of John Bazley White, a cement maker. At the age of sixteen she and a friend, Elizabeth Saunders, caught a fever while visiting the sick poor. Her friend died, and from that time onward, Ellen White regularly visited the poor, collected money to supply them with bibles, and interested herself in the bible society. After her family removed to Swanscombe in Kent, she married there, on 10 January 1839, Benjamin Ranyard. In 1852 she wrote ''The Book and its Story, a Narrative for the Young'', which proved extraordinarily popular. Leeds Northern Railway
The Leeds Northern Railway (LNR), until 1851 the Leeds and Thirsk Railway, was an English railway company that built and opened a line from Leeds to Stockton via Harrogate and Thirsk. In 1845 the Leeds and Thirsk Railway received permission for a line from Leeds to Thirsk, part of which opened in 1848, but problems building the Bramhope Tunnel delayed trains operating into Leeds until 1849. The Leeds and Thirsk Railway Company changed its name to the Leeds Northern Railway on 3 July 1851 before its line to Stockton opened. The company formed an alliance with the West Hartlepool Harbour & Railway and was involved in a price war with the York, Newcastle and Berwick Railway (YN&BR).
