Bob Holman
Bob Holman is an American poet and poetry activist, most closely identified with the oral tradition, the spoken word, and poetry slam. As a promoter of poetry in many media, Holman has spent the last four decades working variously as an author, editor, publisher, performer, emcee of live events, director of theatrical productions, producer of films and television programs, record label executive, university professor, and archivist. He was described by Henry Louis Gates Jr. in ''The New Yorker'' as "the postmodern promoter who has done more to bring poetry to cafes and bars than anyone since Ferlinghetti." Drew Jacoby
Drew Jacoby (born September 2, 1984) is an American contemporary ballet dancer. As of 2020, she is a principal dancer of Royal Ballet of Flanders. Early life Jacoby was born in Boise, Idaho in 1984. She trained at the School of American Ballet, the San Francisco Ballet and Pacific Northwest Ballet. Career In 2002, at age 17, Jacoby joined Alonzo King LINES Ballet in San Francisco, at the invitation of Alonzo King. While at the Lines Ballet, Jacoby became a principal dancer and had numerous original works created on her by King. In 2005, she joined Sylvie Guillem's Japan tour, which she danced with dancers from The Royal Ballet and Paris Opera Ballet. Aesha Ash
Aesha Ash (born December 30, 1977) is an American ballet dancer and teacher. She danced numerous leading roles as a member of New York City Ballet's corps de ballet and as a soloist with Béjart Ballet and Alonzo King LINES Ballet, and Morphoses/The Wheeldon Company. Following her retirement from performing, she founded The Swan Dreams Project in 2011 to dispel stereotypes about Black women in ballet. In 2020, she became the first African American female faculty member at the School of American Ballet. Early life Ash was born and raised in Rochester, New York. She started ballet, tap and jazz at 5 at a local studio. When she was 10, she switched studio to focus on ballet. Adji Cissoko
Adji Cissoko is a German ballet dancer. She is currently a principal dancer at LINES Ballet. Early life Cissoko was born in Munich, Germany, to a German mother and Senegalese father. While growing up, the family visited Senegal regularly and blended both cultures at home. While growing up, she studied the Vaganova method of ballet training. At age 18, she left Germany to study at School of American Ballet and American Ballet Theatre's Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis School, both in New York. Alonzo King
Alonzo King, born in Georgia to civil-rights activists Slater King and Valencia King Nelson, is an American dancer and choreographer based in San Francisco. King grew up in Georgia and California, and, as an adult, decided his contribution would be teaching and choreography. In 1982, having established himself as a well-respected teacher, he founded Alonzo King LINES Ballet. Believing that everyone has the potential to grow through dance, seven years later he opened what was then known as the San Francisco Dance Center, offering classes for both professionals and the community.
