LGBTQ Rights In Lebanon
Lesbian, gay, Bisexuality, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) people living in Lebanon face discrimination and legal difficulties not experienced by non-LGBTQ, LGBT residents. Various courts have ruled that Article 534 of the Lebanese Penal Code, which prohibits having sexual relations that "contradict the laws of nature", should not be used to arrest LGBT people. Nonetheless, the law is still being used to harass and persecute LGBT people through occasional police arrests, in which detainees are sometimes subject to intrusive physical examinations. Marwan Charbel
Marwan Charbel (; born 1947) is a retired Lebanese brigadier general and the former minister of interior and municipalities between 2011 and 2014. Early life and education Charbel was born in 1947. He entered the military academy in 1968 and graduated as a lieutenant in 1971. Then he obtained a bachelor's degree in law from Lebanese University in 1981. Career Charbel served in various units of the Internal Security Forces. Then he became a major general in the Internal Security Forces. He was the advisor of caretaker interior minister Ziyad Baroud. In June 2011, he was appointed minister of interior and municipalities to the cabinet led by prime minister Najib Mikati, replacing Ziyad Baroud in the post. Pride Month
Pride Month, sometimes specified as LGBTQ Pride Month, is a List of month-long observances, month-long observance dedicated to the celebration of LGBTQ pride, commemorating the contributions of lesbian, gay, Bisexuality, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) culture and community. Sodomy
Sodomy (), also called buggery in British English, principally refers to either anal sex (but occasionally also oral sex) between people, or any Human sexual activity, sexual activity between a human and another animal (Zoophilia, bestiality). Mount Lebanon Governorate
Mount Lebanon Governorate () is one of the nine governorates of Lebanon, of which it is the most populous. Its capital is Baabda. Other notable towns and cities include Aley, Bikfaya, and Beit Mery. Kataeb Party
The Kataeb Party (), officially the Kataeb Party – Lebanese Social Democratic Party ( '), also known as the Phalangist Party, is a right-wing Christian political party in Lebanon founded by Pierre Gemayel in 1936. The party and its paramilitary wings played a major role in the Lebanese Civil War (1975–1990), opposing Palestinian insurgency in South Lebanon as well as collaborating with Israel. The Phalangists were responsible for the Black Saturday massacre, the Tel al-Zaatar massacre, Ehden massacre, and the Karantina massacre. Jdeideh
Jdeidy ( translit. al-Judaydat), also Jdayde, Jdaideh and Jdeidet el-Matn, is a coastal municipality and the administrative capital of the Matn District in the Mount Lebanon Governorate. Jdeideh has an area of approximately 6 km2. It is located in the northern suburbs of Beirut city that comprise Greater Beirut. The municipality is formed of three villages of Jdeidet el-Matn, Bauchrieh and Sed el Bauchrieh with a mixed ethnic Armenian & Assyrian population numbering around 160,000 inhabitants.
