John Jeffrey Leal (born December 13, 1954) is a Canadian politician who serves as the 63rd and current mayor of Peterborough. Previously, he was a member of the Legislative Assembly of Ontario from 2003 to 2018 who represented the riding of Peterborough. He served in the cabinet of Kathleen Wynne. Sergio William Leal González (; born 25 September 1982 in Rivera, Uruguay) is a retired professional football player, who played as a forward. Club career Leal emerged from the youth team of Uruguayan Primera División club Peñarol and started his professional career signing a contract with the club in 2001. In March 2003 he was loaned out to Uruguayan Segunda División club Plaza Colonia, remaining there until the end of the season. Pedro Miguel da Cunha Leal (born 28 April 1984, in Lisbon) is a Portugal, Portuguese international rugby football, rugby player and a regular on the World Rugby Sevens World Series circuit. He plays as a fullback or a scrum-half. He is widely considered Portugal's best player in rugby sevens, and in the 2006/07 IRB Sevens World Series he scored 20 tries from eight tournament appearances. Luis Enrique Leal Alvarado (born March 21, 1957) is a Venezuelan former starting pitcher in Major League Baseball who played from 1980 through 1985 for the Toronto Blue Jays. Playing career Leal signed with the Blue Jays as an amateur free agent before the start of the 1979 season. His most productive season came in 1984, when he posted a record of 13–8, with a 3.89 ERA and 134 strikeouts. In a six-year major league career, Leal had a record of 51–58 with a 4.14 ERA, 491 strikeouts, and three shutouts in 946 innings pitched. After spending most of the 1985 and 1986 seasons with the Triple A Syracuse Chiefs, Leal was traded to the Atlanta Braves with Damaso Garcia for Craig McMurtry in February 1987. Luis Leal (Linares, Nuevo León, September 17, 1907 – Santa Barbara, California, January 25, 2010) was a Mexican-American writer and literary critic. Biography Born into a family that had participated in the Mexican Revolution, Leal lived in the United States beginning in 1927, studying at Northwestern University. There, in 1936, he met his future wife Gladys Clemens, with whom he had two sons, Antonio and Luis Alfonso. In 1939 he was naturalized as an American citizen. Juan de Valdés Leal (4 May 1622 – 15 October 1690) was a Spanish painter and etcher of the Baroque era. Career Valdés was born in Seville in 1622. He became a painter, sculptor, and architect. By his twenties, he was studying under Antonio del Castillo in Córdoba. Among his works are ''History of the Prophet Elias'' for the church of the Carmelites; ''Martyrdom of St. Andrew'' for the church of San Francesco in Córdoba; and ''Triumph of the Cross'' for la Caridad in Seville.
