The ''London Daily News'' was a short-lived London newspaper owned by Robert Maxwell. It was published from 24 February to 23 July 1987. it was designed to challenge the local dominance of the ''Evening Standard'' in the London market. Despite significant investment and ambitious plans, the paper struggled to gain a substantial readership and was ultimately forced to shut down after only five months in circulation. History The ''London Daily News'' was intended to be a "24-hour" paper challenging the local dominance of the ''Evening Standard''. "For the city that never sleeps, the paper that never stops", ran the promotional slogan. "LDN" (shorthand for "London") is a song by English singer-songwriter Lily Allen. It was co-written by Future Cut, and features a Colombian porro from the country's Caribbean coast. The song was originally released on limited-edition 7-inch vinyl (500 copies) in the UK in early 2006, accompanied by album track "Knock 'Em Out". It was reissued in September 2006 as the second single from Allen's debut album ''Alright, Still''. The re-release peaked at number six on the UK Singles Chart. "LDN" was ranked number 30 on ''Rolling Stone''s list of the "100 Best Songs of 2007". Background Regal Records gave Allen £25,000 in 2005, when she signed to the label, a fact which she considered to be a "small development idea". Láadan () is a gynocentric constructed language created by Suzette Haden Elgin in 1982 to test the Sapir–Whorf hypothesis, specifically to determine if development of a language aimed at expressing the views of women would shape a culture; a subsidiary hypothesis was that Western natural languages may be better suited for expressing the views of men than women. Low-dose naltrexone (LDN) refers to daily naltrexone dosages that are roughly one-tenth or less of the standard opioid addiction treatment dosage. Most published research suggests a daily dosage of 4.5 mg, but this can vary by a few milligrams. Day-night Average Sound Level
The day-night average sound level (Ldn or DNL) is the average noise level over a 24-hour period. The noise level measurements between the hours of 22:00 and 07:00 are artificially increased by 10 dB before averaging. This noise is weighted to take into account the decrease in community background noise of 10 dB during this period. There is a similar metric called day-evening-night average sound level (Lden or DENL) commonly used in other countries, or community noise exposure level (CNEL) used in California legislation; that is, the DNL with the addition of an evening period from 19:00 to 22:00 when noise level measurements are boosted 5 dB (or 4.77 dB in the case of CNEL) to account for the approximate decrease in background community noise during this period.
