Kō Yoshida
(1913 – 27 February 2009) served as a member of the World Scout Committee, the International Commissioner of the Boy Scouts of Nippon, and as a member of the board of the World Scout Foundation. Background Yoshida served in the Imperial Japanese Army as an officer during his youth and was a successful entrepreneur. He was an avid mountaineer and member of the Himalayan Club since 1978. In 1993, Yoshida was awarded the 230th ''Bronze Wolf'', the only distinction of WOSM, awarded by the World Scout Committee for exceptional services to world Scouting. In 2008 he also received the highest distinction of the Scout Association of Japan, the Golden Pheasant Award. He was then Chairman of the foundation of the Companions of Baden-Powell. The World Organization of the Scout Movement (WOSM ) is the largest and, after the Order of World Scouts (formed in 1911), is the second-oldest international organization in the Scout Movement, having been established in 1922. It has 176 members. These members are national scout organizations that founded WOSM or have subsequently been recognised by WOSM, which collectively have around 43 million participants. Its operational headquarters is in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, although it is legally based in Geneva, Switzerland. The World Scout Foundation (WSF) is an international, non-profit institution based in Geneva, Switzerland. Its mission is to develop World Scouting through the provision of financial and other support through the World Organization of the Scout Movement (WOSM). The Himalayan Club is an organization founded in India in 1928 along the lines of the Alpine Club (UK), Alpine Club. Bronze Wolf
The Bronze Wolf Award is an award presented by the World Organization of the Scout Movement for outstanding service by an individual to the Scout Movement. Just over 400 people have received the Bronze Wolf since its creation in 1935. WOSM has restricted the number of recipients during the award’s history in order to maintain its significance. Currently, the award is limited to approximately one recipient for every two million members worldwide. The is the highest award for adult leaders in the Scout Association of Japan. It is awarded by the Chief Scout of Japan, awarded for eminent achievement and meritorious service to the Association for a period of at least twenty years. It may be awarded to any member of a Scout Association affiliated with the World Organization of the Scout Movement. The award consists of a medallion depicting a stylized golden pheasant, suspended from a white ribbon with two red stripes worn around the neck.
