Kålhuvudet
Kålhuvudet or the Kålhuvudets Nature Reserve is situated in Örnsköldsvik Municipality, in Björna parish of Västernorrland County in northern Sweden. It is located 7 km southwest of Hemling and covers 770 hectares. The reserve was founded in 1993 and is a protected old-growth forest, old-growth spruce forest interspersed with sloped wetland areas more typical to mountainous regions. Located at 510 meters above sea level, the area is subject to high levels of snowfall and many of the trees have experienced damage from the snows. The area was protected to allow the ecosystem to freely develop. Several varieties of spiders, including the conical wheel orb-weaver spider and the long-jawed orb weaver spider have been found amid the spruce trees. The Black woodpecker, Eurasian three-toed woodpecker, Siberian jay and western capercaillie are among the various bird species found in the forest. Among the types of flora found are shrub-like birch; flowering ''Cicerbita alpina'' ...

Listera Cordata
''Neottia cordata'', the lesser twayblade or heartleaf twayblade, is an orchid of upland bogs and mires that rarely exceeds in height. It was formerly placed in the genus '' Listera'', but molecular phylogenetic studies have shown that ''Neottia nidus-avis'', the bird's-nest orchid, evolved within the same group., p. 864 It is never very common but may be frequently overlooked because of its small size and a tendency to grow underneath heather on sphagnum moss. The single erect flower-stem is often tinged red and is clasped near the base by a pair or ovate- orbicular glossy green leaves. The small flowers which look deceptively simple in structure for an orchid, are purple-green in colour with a somewhat swollen calyx. Distribution It has a circumpolar distribution being found in Europe, Asia and large parts of North America. In the United Kingdom its distribution is largely western and northern, becoming most common in the western Highlands of Scotland, Snowdonia in Wales, ...

Fomitopsis Rosea
''Rhodofomes roseus'' is a species of pink polypore found in western North America and Europe. This is a close relative of another species of pink conk, the rosy conk ('' Rhodofomes cajanderi).'' While ''R. cajanderi'' is a plant pathogen, ''R. rosea'' is a detritivore. Habitat ''Rhodofomes roseus'' grows in western North America, most often in spruce forests. Specimens from Vancouver Island, Prince George, and Wells Gray Park have helped characterize the species. This conk grows exclusively on dead wood, with a preference for logs of ''Picea'', ''Pseudotsuga''. or ''Populus'' species. It causes a brown cubical rot. Identification ''Rhodofomes roseus'' is a perennial fungus. Amylocystis Lapponicus
''Amylocystis lapponica'' (alternatively spelled ''Amylocystis lapponicus'') is a species of bracket fungus in the family Fomitopsidaceae, and the type species of genus '' Amylocystis''. It produces medium-sized, annual fruit bodies that are soft, and have a strong, distinct smell. The fungus is a saprophyte that feeds on coniferous wood of logs lying on the ground, and causes brown rot. It is a rather rare species that only occurs in old-growth forest. Taxonomy The fungus was originally described by Swedish mycologist Lars Romell in 1911, who called it ''Polyporus lapponicus''. The type collection was made in Nattavaara (Sweden), where it was found growing on fir. Romell initially thought the fungus might be ''Climacocystis borealis'', but ultimately rejected that opinion, as that species has an easily breakable fruit body, and its spores are of different size and shape. ''Amylocystis lapponica'' has been shuffled to several different polypore genera in its taxonomic histo ...
