Kári P. Højgaard
Kári Páll Højgaard (born 21 July 1951 in Strendur, Faroe Islands) is a Faroese politician. He was chairman of the Self-Government Party (Sjálvstýrisflokkurin) until April 2015 and is a former president of the West Nordic Council (2008–09) (2011–2012) (2017–2018). Højgaard was elected as member of the Løgting, Faroese Parliament on 27 February 2001. He was leader of his party's parliamentary group 2001–11 as well as party chairman 2003–10 and again 2011–2015. He has been member of the municipal council in Runavík from 1988 to the end of 2008, and is currently living in Saltangará. Højgaard was member of The Environment and Natural Resources Committee of the Nordic Council in the period 2004–2008. Nordic Council
The Nordic Council is the official body for formal inter-parliamentary Nordic cooperation among the Nordic countries. Formed in 1952, it has 87 representatives from Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden as well as from the autonomous areas of the Faroe Islands, Greenland, and Åland. The representatives are members of parliament in their respective countries or areas and are elected by those parliaments. Strendur () is a village on the Faroese island of Eysturoy, located along the Skálafjørður fjord. It is the seat and main settlement of the Sjóvar Municipality. The 2012 population was 785. Saltangará
Saltangará () is a village in the Faroe Islands, on the island of Eysturoy. Saltangará was founded in 1846 and is situated on the eastern side of Eysturoys Skalafjordur-inlet between Rituvík and Søldarfjørður. The name is derived from three words: ''angar'' comes from the Old Norse ''angr'' which means a fjord or bay; ''á'' means a stream; and ''salt'' has the same meaning in Faroese, Icelandic and English. Runavík
Runavík is a comparatively urbanised village in Runavík Municipality, Faroe Islands. It lies on the south half of the isle of Eysturoy. Port Founded in 1916, Runavík has an important port, originally used predominantly by fishing boats but now also a key supply base for the North Sea oil industry as well as a trans-shipment port for freight to and from Europe. The harbour underwent development in the late 1990s and can now accommodate cruise ships. Eysturoyartunnilin A massive infrastructure project has been mounted to build an 11 km-long sub-sea tunnel between Runavík and Tórshavn, thereby significantly reducing travel times to the capital. Construction costs are estimated to be around 1 billion Faroese króna.
