Anselan O Kyan
Anselan O Kyan, who was a son of one of the kings of Ulster, landed on the northern coast of Argyll, near Lennox, about the year 1016. He assisted Malcolm II of Scotland in repelling his old enemies the Danes on two occasions. For his service to Malcolm, he received a grant of land in the north of Scotland, east of Loch Lomond. Chōtoku Kyan
(also spelled Chotoku Kiyan) was an Okinawan karate master who was famous for both his karate skills and his colorful personal life. He had a large influence on the styles of karate that would become Shorin-Ryu and its related styles. Early life Chotoku Kyan was born the third son of Chofu Kyan, who was a steward to the Ryukyuan King before the country's 1879 annexation by Japan as Okinawa Prefecture, and originally belonged to the Kyan clan of senior court officials having home territory in Shuri Gibu village being also a genuine member of the Shuri warrior class, a concept of which was imported from Japan. Kyan (, ; 1 July 1918 – 16 November 2019), known honorifically as Daw Kyan (, ), was a Burmese historian and writer who specialized in the history of Burma under British colony. She received two civil orders, two lifetime achievement awards, six literary awards and three outstanding women awards, and was remembered as the Centenary History ''Devi'' of Burma. John Howard Kyan
John Howard Kyan (27 November 1774 – 5 January 1850) was the inventor of the 'kyanising' process for preserving wood. He was the son of John Howard Kyan of Mount Howard and Ballymurtagh, County Wexford, and was born in Dublin on 27 November 1774. His father owned valuable copper mines in Wicklow (now worked by the Wicklow Copper Mines Company) and, for some time worked them himself. The son was educated to take part in the management of the mines, but soon after he entered the company its fortunes declined, and in 1804 his father died almost penniless.
