Kwoth
Kuoth, also known as Kuoth Nhial, is in African mythology the supreme omnipresent god and creation god of the Nuer people of South Sudan and Gambella. Legend Kwoth is known as the "Spirit of the Sky", and is thought to have reign over celestial bodies and natural phenomena. Kwoth created humans and let them live on earth. However, there remained a rope that linked heaven and earth. This allowed humans to climb up to heaven when they became old, and upon their arrival in heaven, humans would return to their rejuvenated selves. One day, a hyena used the rope to travel to heaven. In some versions, the hyena is accompanied by a weaver bird. Kwoth was wary of their intentions and tried to stop them from returning to earth. They escaped, however, and the hyena later cut the rope connecting the two realms. From that day on, humans can die of old age. Nuer People
The Nuer people are a Nilotic ethnic group concentrated in the Greater Upper Nile region of South Sudan. They also live in the Ethiopian region of Gambella. The Nuer speak the Nuer language, which belongs to the Nilotic language family. They are the second largest ethnic group in South Sudan. The Nuer people are pastoralists who herd cattle for a living. Their cattle serve as companions and define their lifestyle. The Nuer call themselves "Naath". Overview The Nuer people have historically been undercounted because of the semi-nomadic lifestyle. They also have a culture of counting only older members of the family. South Sudan (; din, Paguot Thudän), officially the Republic of South Sudan ( din, Paankɔc Cuëny Thudän), is a landlocked country in East Africa. It is bordered by Ethiopia, Sudan, Central African Republic, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Uganda and Kenya. Its population was estimated as 12,778,250 in 2019. The Gambela Region (also spelled Gambella; am, ጋምቤላ), officially the Gambela Peoples' Region, is a regional state in western Ethiopia, bordering South Sudan. Previously known as Region 12, its capital is Gambela. The Region is situated between the Baro and Akobo Rivers, with its western part including the Baro River. Demographics Based on the 2007 Census conducted by the Central Statistical Agency of Ethiopia (CSA), the Gambela region has total population of 307,096, consisting of 159,787 men and 147,309 women; urban inhabitants number 77,925 or 25.37% of the population. KUTH-DT (channel 32) is a television station licensed to Provo, Utah, United States, broadcasting the Spanish-language Univision and UniMás networks to Salt Lake City and the state of Utah. The station is owned and operated by TelevisaUnivision, and maintains studios on West Amelia Earhart Drive in the northwestern section of Salt Lake City; its transmitter is located west of Orem, in the Lake Mountains.
