Quagga
The quagga ( or ) (''Equus quagga quagga'') is a subspecies of the plains zebra that was endemic to South Africa until it was hunted to extinction in the late 19th century. It was long thought to be a distinct species, but early genetic studies have supported it being a subspecies of plains zebra. A more recent study suggested that it was the southernmost cline or ecotype of the species. The quagga is believed to have been around long and tall at the shoulder. It was distinguished from other zebras by its limited pattern of primarily brown and white stripes, mainly on the front part of the body. The rear was brown and without stripes, and appeared more horse-like. The distribution of stripes varied considerably between individuals. Little is known about the quagga's behaviour, but it may have gathered into herds of 30–50. Eddie 'Kwagga' Boucher (born 17 June 1983 in Kroonstad) is a retired South African rugby union player. His regular position was hooker or prop. These days he is a winemaker and the owner of the wine farm La Boucher wines in Stellenbosch. Early life Boucher was born in Kroonstad on 17 June 1983 and was educated at Sarel Cilliers High School. Albertus Stephanus Smith (born 11 June 1993), known professionally as Kwagga Smith, is a South African rugby union player for the South Africa national team, the in Super Rugby and Yamaha Júbilo in the Japanese Top League. Kwaggafontein is a town along the Moloto Road (R573) under Thembisile Hani Local Municipality Jurisdiction in the Nkangala District Municipality, which is located in the Mpumalanga province of South Africa. It was established in the late 1940s by the Amandebele tribe. The Ndebele people came from farms that today are in the Mpumalanga and Gauteng provinces.
