Kuzma () is a settlement in the Municipality of Kuzma in the Prekmurje region in northeastern Slovenia, on the borders with Austria and Hungary. Name Kuzma was attested in written sources in 1387 as ''Zalocha'' and ''Zaloucha'', and as ''Kuzma'' in 1763–87. The name ''Kuzma'' is derived from the Slovene saint's name ''Kozma'' 'Cosmas'. Locally, the settlement is known as ''Kuzdobljan'' (in older sources as ''Kuzdoblan'', and in Prekmurje Slovene as ''Küzdobljan''), which is derived through contraction of ''Koz(ma in) Damijan'' 'Cosmas and Damian', referring to the local church. Church The local church in the village is dedicated to Saints Cosmas and Damian and belongs to the Roman Catholic Diocese of Murska Sobota. Since 1964, it has been a parish church. Kuzma Minin (), full name Kuzma Minich Zakhariev-Sukhoruky (; – May 21, 1616), was a Russian merchant who, together with Prince Dmitry Pozharsky, formed the popular uprising in Nizhny Novgorod against the Polish–Lithuanian occupation of Moscow, Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth's occupation of Russia during the Polish–Muscovite War (1605–1618), Polish intervention in Russia (1605-1618) coinciding with the Time of Troubles. The popular uprising ultimately led to Russian victory at the Battle of Moscow (1612), Battle of Moscow and the end of Polish occupation in 1612. Minin and Pozharsky become national heroes in Russian culture and were honored in the Monument to Minin and Pozharsky in Moscow's Red Square. A native of Balakhna, Minin was a prosperous butcher in Nizhny Novgorod. Kuzma Nikolayevich Derevyanko (, , ; November 14 (O.S. 1), 1904 – December 30, 1954) was a Soviet Lieutenant General in the Soviet Army. Life Derevyanko was born on November 14, 1904, in the village of Kosenivka, Umansky Uyezd, Kiev Governorate, Russian Empire (now Ukraine). Growing up in the Vologda region until the age of nine, Derevyanko got an education in a parochial school and partial attendance at a gymnasium. In 1922, Derevyanko embarked on a military career, enrolling in the Red Army. Graduating from the Second Kyiv School of Red Stars in 1924, he later developed a keen interest in the Japanese language during his time at the Kharkov School of Military Sergeants. By the time he completed his studies, he was proficient in both spoken and written Japanese. Kuzma Sergeyevich Petrov-Vodkin, (; November 5, Old_Style_and_New_Style_dates.html" ;"title="nowiki/> O. S. 24 October1878 – February 15, 1939) was a Russian and USSR">Soviet painter. His early iconographic work used special creative effects based on the curve of the globe, but its images were considered blasphemous by the Russian Orthodox Church.
