Kuwaiti General Election, 1999
General elections were held in Kuwait on 4 July 1999. A total of 288 candidates contested the election,Kuwait Inter-Parliamentary Union which saw pro-government candidates and secular opposition candidates emerge as the two largest blocs in Parliament. Jassem Al-Kharafi
Jassem Al-Kharafi, ( ar, جاسم محمد عبدالمحسن الخرافي, 1940 – May 21, 2015) was a Kuwaiti oligarch who was the speaker of the Kuwaiti National Assembly from 1999 to 2011. In his capacity as Speaker in 2006, Al-Kharafi played a critical role in the ascension of Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah to the emirship of Kuwait by coordinating a no-confidence vote of the incumbent emir, Sheikh Saad Al-Abdullah Al-Sabah. During the reign of Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, his family conglomerate, M.A. Kharafi & Sons, dominated several sectors of the Kuwaiti economy, including construction, telecommunications and investment. Ahmed Al-Sadoun
Ahmed Abdulaziz al-Sadoun ( ar, أحمد عبدالعزيز السعدون) (born 1934) is the Speaker of the Kuwaiti National Assembly from October 2022. He was previously the speaker from 1985 to 1999 and from February 2012 until it was declared that the February 2012 elections were invalid. He is the leader of the Popular Action Bloc in the Assembly and served for eight terms. He represented the third district. Al-Sadoun worked in the ministry of communication before being elected to the National Assembly in 1975. Al-Sadoun is a real estate executive. Elections In Kuwait
Elections in Kuwait are held for both the National Assembly of Kuwait, National Assembly and for the Municipality. Kuwait's constitution calls for elections to the unicameral National Assembly of Kuwait, National Assembly at a maximum interval of four years. Elections are held earlier if the Constitutional Court or Emir of Kuwait, Emir dissolve the parliament. Electoral districts Kuwait was divided into five districts in the National Assembly elections between 1963 and 1975. Each district elected ten deputies to the Assembly. Before the 1981 elections the government redistricted Kuwait, creating a system of 25 districts. Following the redistricting, fewer Shi'ite candidates won seats in the Assembly. This was a deliberate result of the redistricting, and it followed the Iranian Revolution, 1979 Revolution in Iran.
