Kurtis Byrne
Kurtis Byrne (born 9 April 1990) is an Irish professional footballer who plays for Bluebell United. He is the son of former Celtic and Southend United player Paul Byrne. Career Hibernian Byrne was a member of the Hibernian under-19 side that won the league and cup double in the 2008–09 season. He scored the winning goal in both the decisive league match and the Youth Cup Final. Byrne was one of seven players in that side who were given professional contracts by Hibs following their success. Byrne made his professional debut on 26 August 2009 in the Scottish League Cup against Brechin City, and made his league debut the following Sunday against Celtic. Stirling Albion (loan) Byrne was loaned to Stirling Albion for a month in February 2010. East Fife (loan) Byrne was then loaned to East Fife for the first half of the 2010–11 season. The Scottish League Cup (also known as the Viaplay Cup for sponsorship reasons) is a football competition open to all Scottish Professional Football League (SPFL) clubs. First held in 1946–47, it is the oldest national League Cup in existence. The competition had a straight knockout format but became a group and knockout competition from 2016–17. Rangers are the record holders of the cup, winning 27 times. Celtic are the holders, winning their 20th title after beating Hibernian 2–1 at Hampden Park on 19 December 2021. Paul Peter Byrne (born 30 June 1972 in Dublin) is an Irish former football player, who played as a midfielder during the 1990s and 2000s. Club career Early career Paul grew up in Bluebell and played for Bluebell United as a child before being recruited by Oxford United. He made his league debut as a 16-year-old against Barnsley alongside the likes of Ray Houghton. Byrne played 30 or so games for Oxford but moved to Arsenal where he spent 6 months in the reserve team under George Armstrong without making a first team appearance.
