Kurt Horres
Kurt Horres (28 November 1932 – 2 January 2023) was a German stage director, particularly of opera, and opera manager. He held positions as general manager at the Staatstheater Darmstadt, the Hamburg State Opera, and from 1986 to 1996 at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein. He focused on opera of the 20th century, including composers who had been banned during the Nazi regime, such as Korngold's ''Die tote Stadt'', and literature operas including Gottfried von Einem's ''Kabale und Liebe'', and the world premieres of Blacher's '' Yvonne, Prinzessin von Burgund,'' and Klebe's ''Das Mädchen aus Domrémy''. He taught stage direction at the Folkwang University. Life and career Horres was born in Düsseldorf on 28 November 1932. Theater Bonn (also known as the Stadttheater Bonn) is the municipal theatre company of Bonn, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. Hans Zender
Johannes Wolfgang Zender (22 November 1936 – 22 October 2019) was a German conductor and composer. He was the chief conductor of several opera houses, and his compositions, many of them vocal music, have been performed at international festivals. As a conductor, he worked at the Theater Freiburg, Theater Bonn, Opernhaus Kiel and Hamburg State Opera, and led the radio orchestra Deutsche Radio Philharmonie Saarbrücken Kaiserslautern. He taught at the Musikhochschule Frankfurt. His opera ''Stephen Climax'' premiered in 1986 at the Oper Frankfurt, and his third opera, ''Chief Joseph'', premiered in 2005 at the Staatsoper Unter den Linden. Boris Godunov (opera)
''Boris Godunov'' ( rus, Борис Годунов, links=no, Borís Godunóv ) is an opera by Modest Mussorgsky (1839–1881). The work was composed between 1868 and 1873 in Saint Petersburg, Russia. It is Mussorgsky's only completed opera and is considered his masterpiece. Its subjects are the Russian ruler Boris Godunov, who reigned as Tsar (1598 to 1605) during the Time of Troubles, and his nemesis, the False Dmitriy (reigned 1605 to 1606). The Russian-language libretto was written by the composer, and is based on the 1825 drama ''Boris Godunov'' by Aleksandr Pushkin, and, in the Revised Version of 1872, on Nikolay Karamzin's ''History of the Russian State''. Hans Drewanz
Hans Drewanz (2 December 1929 – 22 June 2021) was a German conductor and academic teacher. He was the Generalmusikdirektor (GMD) of Darmstadt for more than three decades, shaping musical life in the town especially at the Staatstheater Darmstadt. Life Hans Drewanz was born in Dresden on 2 December 1929. He grew up in Berlin with a brother named Hubertus. His father, Hanz Drewanz, was a Kapellmeister at a theatre; and his mother, Charlotte, was a kindergarten teacher. Drewanz was a pupil at the Musisches Gymnasium Frankfurt from 1940 until the end of World War II in 1945. Drewanz worked as an organist after 1945, and from 1947 as a répétiteur at the Oper Frankfurt. Simultaneously, he studied piano at the Musikhochschule Frankfurt with August Leopolder, while all other subjects had been previously covered by the Musisches Gymnasium. Hans Wallat
Hans Wallat (18 October 1929 – 11 December 2014) was a German conductor, GMD in Bremen, at the Nationaltheater Mannheim, Theater Dortmund and Deutsche Oper am Rhein. A specialist for the stage works of Richard Wagner, he appeared at the Bayreuth Festival and internationally. Career Born in Berlin, he studied with Rudolf Neuhaus in Schwerin. He worked at theatres in Schwerin, Stendal, the Meiningen Court Theatre and in Cottbus. In 1958, Wallat was appointed ''Erster Kapellmeister'' at the Leipzig Opera. He left the GDR shortly before the Wall was built, and was ''Erster Kapellmeister'' at the Deutsche Oper Berlin from 1964. Wallat specialised in German opera, focussed on the works of Richard Wagner.
