Kurdistan Save the Children (KSC) is a non-profit organization founded in 1991 in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq. Its mission is to support children in Iraq of all backgrounds by addressing their healthcare, social, economic, and educational needs. History Kurdistan Save the Children (KSC) was founded on September 16, 1991, by Hero Ibrahim Ahmed in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq. The organization was created in response to the severe humanitarian crisis following the 1991 Iraq uprisings, which forced 1.5 million Kurds to flee to the mountains, as well as to neighboring Iran, Turkey, and Western countries. The UN Security Council responded with Resolution 688, establishing a no-fly zone over Kurdish territory. During this period, the Kurdish population endured extreme hardships, including hunger and exposure to the cold, which resulted in numerous child deaths. Hero Ibrahim Ahmed
Hero Ibrahim Ahmed () (born 12 June 1948) is the former First Lady of Iraq from 2005 to 2014 and the widow of the President of Iraq, Jalal Talabani. Early life She was born on 12 June 1948 to an active political family that was struggling against Kurdish oppression in Iraq. Her father, Ibrahim Ahmad was imprisoned at Abu Graib in the 1950s which motivated her to follow politics. Her family was exiled to Kirkuk in 1954 and placed under house arrest until their return to Silemani in 1953. Upon returning her father was wounded in an assassination attempt. Her family moved to Baghdad in 1958, where Hero pursued an education. She couldn't finish her education because of a military coup in Iraq which forced her family to flee to Iran, where she again resumed her education. In 1972, she graduated from Al-Mustansiriya University, Baghdad in Psychology, and gave birth to her eldest son Bafel then her second child Qubad. Shanaz Ibrahim Ahmed
Shanaz Ibrahim Ahmed () (born 1954) is an Iraqi-Kurdish politician and current First Lady of Iraq. Her husband is President Abdul Latif Rashid. She is a daughter of the Kurdish judge, writer, and politician Ibrahim Ahmed, and novelist Galawezh Salh Fatah. She is also a sister of former First Lady of Iraq, Hero Ibrahim Ahmed. Shanaz is a member of a prominent, politically active family from Sulaymaniyah and is closely associated with the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) party, which is currently headed by her nephew, Bafel Talabani. She is the President of Kurdistan Save the Children (KSC) and has led projects that provide protection, healthcare, and education to children affected by war in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region. She is the daughter of Iraq's President Abdul Latif Rashid and First Lady Shanaz Ibrahim Ahmed, the granddaughter of the Kurdish judge, writer, and politician Ibrahim Ahmad, and the niece of former first lady of Iraq Hero Ibrahim Ahmed.
